Sadly Sage Canaday will not run at the event, he is suffering a calf strain, after coming off another injury in November and forced 90-100 mpw too quickly apparently!!! Sage was shooting for the 50M & 100k world record

I guess when I think 'untouchable' I think someone like Scott Jurek who went around winning just about every really long race that mattered. Walsmley isn't there yet. But I concede, he would be the favorite at just about any flattish 100 mile race.
I don't think the level of competition was anywhere near as steep in Jurek's peak days as it is now in any ultra.
No way anyone's winning multiple back to back WS100's or anything else any more.
Well, its not like Walmsley is even trying to do so. While it might be possible to be quite as dominant as Jurek was its still possible. There are still others that are very consistent at the 100+ mile distance.
anyone know where in Phoenix this will happen? Hopefully it's 15 loops of the Marathon Project course! that would be excellent.
And actually I take that back. It is absolutely possible, Courtney Dauwalter is doing it.

It's basically the same course as Marathon Project but extended.
Camille Herron absolutely could still run faster than her 7:07 PB. that's 6:52/mi or so. hasn't she set off at 7low pace in track 100s before? Also, I hope nobody reads into her recent 3:25 50k. She ought to be able to run 3:15-3:19 these days, assuming she could still run about 2:40 in the marathon. (2:37 PB I believe)
People should also pay attention to Cole Watson and Hayden Hawks. Hayden just broke Jim's CR at JFK 50 miler, running much quicker in the final ten miles. Cole Watson ran 40 miles at 5:48/mi a few weeks ago as a training run so is clearly targeting the WR as well for either 50mi or 100k.
I think this time trial will be interesting to watch. Since it is on the road and not trails it will definitely allow some of the runners that handle speed better to shine. I think a wild card runner that should run fast will be Fernando Cabada. His running career has been up and down but he has stayed fairly consistent over the years. Figuring at JFK he was new to the trail scene he should fair much better on the roads. There are others that have better resumes in the ultra distances but I think he could give them a run for their money. As long as he is in shape he is going to preform well and will break 7 hours.
This will be our official thread for tomorrow's race which is streamed live at the link below. We talked to Jim Walmsley on our podcast this week and we have links to our write-up on that where you can listen to the full thing or snippets as well.
Today was the press conference for the meet. Hayden Hawks who beat Jim's JFK 50 Mile World Record earlier this year said that "It was a preparation or a "B" race for me" and his focus is on the world record. "My goal is to break the world record. I always shoot high and sometimes it blows up in my face.”
Walmsley on our podcast showed he clearly has more respect for the 100k distance than he did in the past. It is run a lot and breaking the WR won't be easy. He plans to go out at 3:04 pace and said, "I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m running on world record pace and someone’s three, four minutes ahead of me and I end up 20 minutes ahead of them at the finish line."
On the women's side Camille Herron is the favorite. She said she's at 80-85% fitness but that is the same fitness as she was when she won Comrades. Her goal will be to run off effort. "I’m really focussed on that 80% (heart rate) effort. That was the approach I had when I won Comrades.”
No way she gets the WR (7:33) but Ann Trason's AR is 7:00:48 and Camille's best is 7:08.
So I'll post these in the next post as well: Does Jim win? Does he get he WR? And does Camille win and what's her time?

And I thought Camille said this at the press conference and went and looked it up. Only 1 woman ever has run under 7 hours. Tomoe Abe has the world record at 6:33. Next best time 7:00:27 Pretty nuts.
Walmsley hasn't posted a workout since January 4. Is he dinged-up or just stealthy?
I say Jim gets beat. When has he ever hung back?
Some runners have to be in it, to be in it. I don't think Jim can come back from several minutes down, much less put a dozen minutes in after the fact.
Wejo you have a typo:
Women's World Record is 6:33 (not 7:33)...yes, it's that good!
Nevermind, my post....I saw your second post with the corrected time of 6:33.
Anyway in terms of the women's race I think former Hansons teammate Nicole Monette will surprise.
