I was an admirer of this kid. But I was suspicious. I raised kids around the Houston prep sports scene and was surprised at the 'by whatever means it takes' ethos I saw.
So this kids goes from HS running a 10.11, 20.31 and a 46.15 while long jumping 26 and 3.5 inch
to now being 2 years removed and having better training, being stronger and bigger and his max 200 is 20.66 and long jump is 24 7.5 inch
I see alot of HS athletes drop off in the NCAAs because they weren't natural athletes in HS where there is no drug testing and they lack the sophistication (except for alan webb whose dad was an anesthesiologist) to enhance w/o being caught in college and risk losing their scholarships.
There is no reason a 20 year old athlete should not be better than what they were at 18 if they are still competing and training at a high level.
Matt Boling's performance dropped off from HS to college

You do realize there was no track season in 2020?

Look at the difference in muscle from HS to college - he got much smaller

there was an indoor season
-
Has he even run an outdoor race in college? He ran a 200 indoor maybe which would obviously be slower than outdoor. Other than that hard to draw any real conclusions without any actual races.

Looks the same to me. You think that white stripe on his uniform is his tricep?
Compare all of these pictures rather than thinking his singlet stripe is his triceps.

I saw a video on Youtube with Ato Bolding commenting with Bolling running an essay 20.27 200 meters (vs. Ty Cooper) with a small illegal wind.
Must have been last spring or summer -
Here it is.

He cruised to the finish after running alone for 80 meters

Definitely not full out.
Ato B was suitably impressed. -

There was no real decline in sprints 20.66 was indoor, 6.68 is also pretty good for him considering he has poor acceleration. But to things you must consider is that one he had very little races, and two he was trying to peak for the Olympics which is after the college season.
.He probably only long jumped one event and it just was not his day. -

Many kids fail to progress in College not because they were previously on drugs, but the transition and change didn't work for them. Different Coach. Different Training Load. Different Environment, Goals, Lifestyle and different Diet. -
Ive seen a couple really big and fast 100m runners who played football and track and I know for a fact they did roids, were clearly bigger and more jacked than their competition. Had bad acne/backne, irritability, things just were a little too suspicious. These type are not too common but they come around every now and then lighting up the football field and the track at a big size for a sprinter. Pretty suspicious. Some people don't get involved in that crowd that young but if they have loose or poor parenting influences they can be prone to this.

20.66 indoors? That's great. He has a big stride, and 200m tracks have tight turns.
If they could have raced while in college, I'd bet on Matt Boling against Clancy Edwards and against Dwayne Evans.
Plus Boling's 400s are amazing, and with Justin Robinson now at ASU, I'm betting they both make the 4 x 400m Olympic relay. -
Matt Boling graduated from high school at age 19 if I recall. He is not going to improve like someone who shows up August of freshman school year a 17 year old. The fact that Boling graduated from high school at or near age 19 may mean academics are extremely challenging for him. East German sprinters 50 years ago did not have to be concerned about college academic challenges.

This. When my daughter went to Div I school for pole vault, I thought for sure her heights would shoot up with better coaching and training (e.g. much more serious weight training in college), but she barely improved.
It’s unfair to accuse someone with no proof. -
There are a million variables that influence performance. Go find the top 5 HS list from track and field news in 2010. Tell me how many of those names ever become noticable again?
Just as many "unknowns" make big gains.
There is no simple formula. -
He had not even a complete indoor season
I'm assuming he's also training for the Dec. There's not really any reason to go to UGA otherwise -
You think “a lot” is one word so your opinion is void. Your stupid phone will even autocorrect.
