(1) since you love your college so much, how much money have you donated since graduating?
(2) Do you like your alma mater more than the girl you were dating?
(3) it's lame you got upset at your girlfriend. You should have been embarrassed and apologized profusely for being so silly
school spirit is stupid. But you know that now...
You were wrong when you refused to wear it after asking to skip the photo. The uncle was wrong for insisting you took the photo, he should have let you skip the photo. The gf was right when she basically said both you and her uncle were wrong.
I for sure would have just taken the picture. I don’t see what the big deal is here. First world problem at its finest ladies and gents. Deal with the ahole boomers like the rest of us kid.
Maybe, but girls don't typically invite a guy to a family holiday party unless they think there is some potential for something more serious. That said, one of the cardinal rules of dating is never embarrass a girl in front of her family or friends. You violated that rule.
But even after your immature display she was willing to talk things through the next day. And then you went and told her you wanted nothing to do with her family? How is she supposed to react? You gave her no choice but to break things off.
At this point just chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on with your life.
If I'm sensing what you're saying, and I think I do, you're gay?
This scenario reminds me of a certain scene from "Ordinary People":
Everyone telling you that you were in the wrong must have a lot of trauma and regrets. Think about it like this, today the uncle tells you what shirt to wear, tomorrow he tells you what job to work or where to live. You were an alpha by not giving in, be proud of that, the girlfriend wasn’t worth it. It is better to die alone as an alpha with your pride in tact then married with kids living someone else’s dream.

The hallmark of a true alpha is, and has always been, the ability to hide in the bathroom to avoid conflict. The OP needs to read some Hemingway, frequent some smoky dives in the company of loose women, and spend a good deal of time scratching his balls in public. This is the way.
I’m with the OP on this one. We all have a few personality quirks, and if he refuses to wear the rival of his alma mater’s jersey under just about any circumstance, that’s his right. And once the uncle forcefully demanded that he do as he was told and put on the damn sweater, then of course he absolutely could not have complied without looking like the most useless doormat on God’s green earth. Nothing to be ashamed of here.
I would do some internal checkins and see what type of toxic pride you have built up. Does your school pride really outweighs this year long mental headache you’re dealing with? Try to find what’s under the surface
