Wejo, when they ask you "what's your excuse", remember, you asked for it. ;-)
Martin Hehir is a great story; med student, father, Sub 2:10 Marathoner. He should be celebrated.
but Galen Rupp would have run 2:04 on that course...............

Malmo, what was your excuse for not running 2:08? Or what about now, you could run an age equivalent 2:08?
I read elsewhere here that the supershoes are worth 2 or 3 minutes, so 2:08?
and what about you? wrote:

Actually his half marathon was equivalent to a 2:08:41 and I don't think he was wearing the supershoes back then. His marathon, alas, was not so fast.

I never said that I could.
Besides, to quote Foghorn Leghorn, "It's a joke Son. I made a funny and you're not laughing! You're built too low. The fast ones go over your head!"

Only fools buy into equivalence tables. Your times are what they are.
Steve Jones ran 2h07 off a fulltime job back in tbe day
Agreed, I am currently in a job where I have to wake up at 0400 on the weekdays, so I can run before work and have to run immediately afterwards, so I can go to bed at 2000, no later than 2100. Though it is easier for me being single, no girlfriend, no wife, no kids and my social life is very limited. But I'm only young once, so why waste it on things I can do later on? It is all about priorities, time management and being discipline.
Of course the implication of Wejo’s post is that people are either trying to run 2:08 or are making excuses as to why they cannot. Wejo knows that most people do not have the requisite talent or drive to run 2:08 or even 2:11 if we want to factor in the shoes as making a generous contribution. Yuki Kawauchi ran 2:08 with a full time job, and without the super shoes, but now that he does not work full time he cannot seem to run as fast, whether this is due to injuries or getting older or something else I am not sure. I know that for some the requisite drive to try to run a peak marathon may not last for more than a few years if it ever exists at all.
Weird, not sure why the mods thought 'wickedly fast courses' isn't a good explanation for why marathon times are faster now.
Inspiration, sure. At the end of the day we arent all created with equal talents.
I will say, we only know hes doing a great job at one of these thing, running. Who knows what the other two are like.
People do waste a lot of time not focusing their energy. I wonder what his scedule looks like. How much sleep does he need? Many would need 10 hrs a night or more to run like that. If he needs less, huge advantage.
Be inspired. But beating yourself up because someone else seems perfect is unproductive.
And if this is how wejo's mind actually works, he is not yet mature.
This guy would have run 2:05 today without a doubt. He worked 12 hour shifts and ran in workboots at lunch in his sweaty work clothes. He smoked and drank and wore a pair of shoes for 1200 miles because he couldn't afford new ones.
Becoming more common. Two of Ireland’s three qualified marathoners work full time. One is a school principal and the other a doctor.

I think the point is that regardless of talent, it takes an enormous amount of work/dedication in order to run 2:08 with a full time job regardless of talent. 2:08 is probably close to Marty's limits. Suppose your limit is 2:20... you have no excuse not to run that given Marty is a full time med student and father of two.
You should be smarter than this. You completely missed my point. You say I know no excuse not to run 2:20 if that is my limit. That is like saying you have no excuse not to play the violin for the New York Philharmonic if you have the talent. Please be smarter about this. What makes you think that we all must be slaves to our talents?
