Ever since my brother got COVID, I have not been able to run every day. He has to come along with me on my runs so I'm safe. This has lead to me being able to run every few days instead of consistently. I would have thought this leads to a terrible mile time, since half of the race is aerobic (i think). So i have been doing speedwork a lot more, a lot of stuff at mile pace for 400s. Also 1ks, and 800s and 600s. So I run a mile time trial on Christmas day, later in the afternoon. The weather is warm and uncomfortable, so less than ideal. The candy I ate that morning was still digesting in my stomach. My workouts predicted 6:00 ish pace. So when I finished the time trial in 5:49 I was very surprised.
Is there a good explanation to this? I am also fearful this leads to early burnout, as I am only running quality workouts.
