Re: herd immunity
Not reaching herd immunity via vaccination would be a pretty huge fail. Lots of unnecessary deaths. If you were to make an educated guess in this situation, there is very good reason err on the high side.
Figuring out the actual percentage is actually a pretty hard calculation to make. The data is uncertain and evolving.
1) what is the proportion of previously infected now immune people needed to reach herd immunity? A recent paper pegged at a lower than previously understood number—43%, but with very wide error margins.
2) how much does a given level of infection provide immunity? Could some of the previously infected population be protected from serious disease but still be a spreader
3) how long will natural immunity last?
4) how much do the vaccines prevent transmission?
As an example, if you need a 70% vaccination rate with a vaccine that blocks 100% of transmission then one could argue you need a 100% vaccination rate with a vaccine that blocks 70% of transmission (a bit complicated because behavior affects transmission rate, but a fair first estimate)
Fauci is put in the position of taking information that is uncertain, evolving, probabilistic and non-linear and then communicating it to the general public. That is an enormously difficult task. He doesn’t get to talk about error bars, and benefit-risk planes. In boiling that down to an easily communicated action plan I can understand how he would make statements that in retrospect appear both wrong and overly certain.

To give Rojo credit, he did allow these posts, which have taken apart his previous posts, back up.
(Also Armstronglivs is a great poster, but for the record the above copied and recopied quote isn't his, its from another one of my favorite posters)[/quote]
What postEr is that? Me???

Wrong. Where’s the evidence? I’ll wait . YOURE THE LIAR

Fauci said:
There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”
Plus this is the guy who went to a baseball game, didn't sit six feet apart from two people and took off his mask.
And now Fauci has done it again. A NY Times reporter noticed he's been quietly upping his numbers on herd immunity.
the NY Times wrote:
In the pandemic’s early days, Dr. Fauci tended to cite the same 60 to 70 percent estimate that most experts did. About a month ago, he began saying “70, 75 percent” in television interviews. And last week, in an interview with CNBC News, he said “75, 80, 85 percent” and “75 to 80-plus percent.”
Now Fauci has once again admitted, he was lying all along. Check this out (bold added by yours truly).
the NY Times wrote:
In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goal posts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science,
and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.
Hard as it may be to hear, he said, he believes that it may take close to 90 percent immunity to bring the virus to a halt — almost as much as is needed to stop a measles outbreak.
lol your bias is showing. Try again, illiterate

"He claims he did lie..."
But a "claim" is a sideways lie? So....
The Unkle, you are flat out dangerous and need to stop.
First, you spread disinformation in your inability to quote properly. The case above is all the proof anyone would need, but everyone on LRC knows all to well this glaring problem, for which you are famous.
Second, please once quote where Faucci himself said he "lied" Rojo said he lied. But Fauccii has gone to great lengths to explain what he did and as far as i can tell he never said he lied,
Honestly, the concepts herein may be beyond your ability to grasp them. That is fine. But it is wrong that LRC allows you to carry on ad-nauseum spreading blatant misinformation. For this reason, many here feel LRC has sunken to standards that are shameful given the current crisis we find ourselves in.

I do think he is lying now more so than his original statements.
Ergo, he is lying about lying.
Hence he is lying
The denial is strong in this one.
Hence the calls for censorship.
Someone is saying things outside the official narrative I have swallowed hole. Make them stop.
Please post a direct quotation in which Faucci said he lied and where you found it.
