How can you predict something like that? Ritz and Moorcroft had huge breakthroughs at 12:56 and 13:00, respectively, and never approached those times again.
Kincaid's 12:58 might end up being a race of a lifetime or maybe not.

I have to agree with this....PRs are PRs for a reason, and he is unlikely to set it again. It would be interesting to try an analyze big breakthrough performances at any distance, and to see if the athlete was eventually able to improve upon the breakthrough.
Hunter will be the next one to break the record in 2.5 years. He will run 13:08 next summer and sub 13 summer of 2022 and then the record the following year. People here will tell him to switch coach to break world record.
12:53.6 is the record. The 12:58 was a major breakthrough in perfect conditions (literally paced 4600 meters), so it might be tough to expect another big jump. Woody's 28, and last year wasn't completely discouraging by any means (he PR'ed in the 1500). That being said, he didn't take any swings at the 5 while many of his teammates were running lifetime bests. That indicates there were fitness/injury shortcomings. With Wavelight and such great 5,000 running at this moment, there'll be 12:53 type races but I don't think Jerry will send him out there for them.
Go Woody! But it kind of feels like it was a Solinskyesque feat and won't be repeated.

I guess he didn't have a PR before breaking 13.

There has been an overreaction to the effects of wavelight. Elite runners don't need help to run a hard, even pace and you can't draft off of it. It also seems to only help the guy that wins the race.

It is not likely that a man who cannot break 3:38 for 1500m can medal at 5000m in this day & age. If a man cannot break 3:38, a man needs the foot speed of Miruts Yifter. [I do not know why Yifter, a 48.xx 400m man could not break 3:38 1500m.]
