No two ways about it. I'm literally being punished for working.

If it sounds so appealing, quit and stay home.
Guess what? You won't.
If you stop working, then I will agree with you.
If you continue working, then that is an admission that you are wrong about this.

There are many people who are working that also get the $600 freebie.
I'm sure most of the people who will be collecting the$600 would rather be working. The exception are those who are just lazy. You sound like a lazy person who feels put out because you have to work.
The $600 relief money has nothing to do with whether you're working or staying home.
I'm working and I'll get it.
News flash, if $600 is a lot of money to you, then you qualify to get it. Congrats.
I don't even want it. It's a huge waste of money but I'll have to repay it (and then some) when they have to raise taxes to 50% for the lowest bracket and 90% for the top bracket in 20 years to avoid bankruptcy, so I might as well take the small amount of money now and enjoy life while I can.

You only get it if you are earning less than $75K, so if you're a professional you're probably only going to be eligible if you are working part time or not at all.

Household income of about 150k most years. This year my wife popped out a second baby and had a few months of maternity leave. So we will be getting $2400.
For broke people they will appreciate it but probably spend it all within a month or less. No wonder they're already broke, poor money management.

Yep, all broke people are poor money managers. They deserve being poor. And you're spot on in your astute observation that these broke people will probably spend it ALL within a month, or less even! While all us wily money managers will invest it in bitcoin or one of our investment properties.

you should quit your job and give someone else your health insurance and work in an industry that has had mass layoffs as a direct result of the pandemic.
What's a slap in the face is that Congress is taking billions of dollars from individual hard working U.S. citizens and giving it to foreign countries (e.g. Egypt, Sudan) and special interest groups, such as: $15 billion for the entertainment industry (that's real essential - got to keep the masses entertained so they don't wake up to reality); tax break for corporate meal expenses (boss man got to eat - but I'm working from home so can I deduct my Hot Pockets?); colleges and schools will receive $82 billion, including $22.7 billion earmarked for colleges and universities and $54.3 billion for elementary and secondary education (all the while no one is using their facilities and they are saving boatloads of money on operational expenses while still charging inflated tuition prices and teachers are refusing to work); $10 billion for child-care assistance (don't make them if you can't afford them); $45 billion for transportation, including $16 billion for another round of airline employee and contractor payroll support; $14 billion for transit; $10 billion for highways; $2 billion for intercity buses; $2 billion for airports; and $1 billion for Amtrak (sorry folks, you're industries have now been proven obsolete - I'm surprised Congress didn't include money for the buggy whip manufacturers). Perhaps it is time for the people to revolt because the Swamp has proven too deep to drain.
Keep 1/20/21 from happening.
My family will collect the full $2400, as will most people I associate with. I don't need it, and would have been more in support of no bail outs from the government.
Buy the stimulus will he done like the last one, based on tax returns. It will be easier for those who actually work to get the check. Those who don't file taxes will get nothing.
The income requirements for those who don't qualify are very high. Congratulations on you earnings. Take solace in the fact that most of the recipients are tax payers who are actually in need, or like my family, just going to add it to their savings.
President Trump wants to give the people staying at home $2000-$4000!
This is a government handout, and as a real American against communism I will not stand for this.
I don't qualify so I haven't really been paying attention to the details, but if we're talking about a one time $600 payment, then it feels more like a slap in the face than anything. Six hundred dollars isn't changing anyones life or really making anything better.
In my brothers case, that $600 will go to Anheiser Busch and Phillip Morris. But then again, I'm sure the $600 is actually meant to go into "big business" at the end of the day.

Instead of sitting back and watching the gop implode, Schumer tosses them a lifeline and asks trump to sign the bill and then congress will discuss the $2k.
Trump will sign it.
Congress will never discuss it.
Schumer saves McConnell.

Typically I would agree with your sarcasm, but there is a constitutional argument to be made that because government has denied people the right to work, or work freely, it has infringed on their constitutional rights and deprived them of not only liberty but also property (a minimum of 1st and 5th Amendment violations). States have also not provided people and businesses with equal protection, favoring some similarly situated businesses over others (e.g. Home Depot as compared to Cunningham Hardware). Therefore, I view the relief payments as just compensation for unconstitutional infringements.
