I am a male 15 year old sophomore, last cross country season ran very low 17's on slow courses and felt good (I think it was fair to say I was in well under sub 17 shape), and I did this off of 55 miles per week overall average. Thinking back at it, I wish I ran more like 45 miles per week, as now I am not sure how to improve. I did frequent workouts where I wasn't very focused, mostly just 2 mile tempos, and 1k repeats where I would slack off and take long rests. I am defiantly interested in running in college, but now I am realizing that in college I won't have as much room to improve if I have already done this high millage. In my junior and senior year, should I continue building my millage, to say maybe a 60 average junior year, and a 65-70 senior? Or should I stay around the same millage and continue to do better quality workouts as I have been doing now? Right now my typical training week going into indoor and outdoor (which are delayed until around march, is: Mon: 8 miles and 8 strides; Tue: 7.5 total, 20 minute T, Wed: 6.5 Thur: 10 Fri: Same as Tuesday, 20 minute Tempo (7.5 total), Sat: 8 miles and 8 strides and Sunday: 12.5 mile long run. This is my current base phase, training for 1600/3200, I will have a ton of speed work later in the season, that is why I am not including much now. Thanks in advanced, and any advice is greatly appreciated.
