A downhill course....so not a world best....but equals Tergat's best in Lisbon!
A downhill course....so not a world best....but equals Tergat's best in Lisbon!
Actually the official time is apparently 59.05...Fastest ever (a PR by over two minutes)....
Through 10 miles in 44.34!
downhill course as you said + tailwind but great performance
Amazing performance by Tadesse and broke a few world best's along the way. Only 2 seconds off Geb's 10 mile best.
Great run by Tulu in the women's race too 67:33.
Can't say the same for Ndereba who finished in around 1:10. So much for 65 minutes.
yes yes yes yes yes boy boy ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
tadesse 4 eva! mesfin, would you like to say something? :) what about you, vipam?
what is his performance worth if it hadn`t been a dounhill course?
tulu and tadessa video interview
Awesome run - went through 10k in 27.35 and then ran miles 7 and 8 in 4.15 and 4.17! Had he run more even paced im sure he would have gone well under 59mins. With his pbs on the track being much slower in comparison the question to ask is what the hell could this guy do for a marathon?!
about 2.13.
Amazing runs. Good for them,
I wish they had used translators for the interviews.

The course only had a 35m net drop. When Tergat ran the previous best in Lisbon he had a 60m drop.
Will Tadesse participate in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton? It would be interesting to see him battling against Sileshi Sehen and Dinkiesa

Oh man, if this other guy is right about it only being a 35m drop, that is worth more like 2:06 in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy turns out to be one of the next great marathoners. May not set a WR (or he might), but he should be able to give ANYONE a run for their money. This guy is not a speed runner from what I can tell, so a 59:06 half (even somewhat downhill) and a bronze medal in the Olympic 10k should add up to a sweet marathon I would think.
Great race! Fastest ever non-legal(fastest overall) half marathon! Last week the fastest ever legal(now fourth fastest overall) half marathon was run also! What a great two weeks!

That's all the legal sub 60's ever run~! Notice that the list includes Lisbon and Newcastle, which are both downhill and illegal. But since they are run so often and are 2 of the top 4 marathons in the world, they are in the list. This is great!
Wow. Is he running world champs in Edmonton? Would love to see him and Wanjiru go head-to-head a few times and eventually bring the WR into 58:3x territory.
There is also Tergat's 58.51 at Milan in 1996...The course was found to be 49m too short....
49m probably equates to an additional 8 seconds.... That run was probably worth a 'genuine' 58.59
Tergat's best run was the stramilano one. 58:51. 49 meters short. Back in 1996. 1995-1997 were some incredible years in distance running.
incridable performance. Tadesse has shown that he has a good talent for marthon and i can see in he future he will be one of the best runnner in marthon. consderding he is only 22 years old
Half marathon is funny, short courses and downhill courses, I wish they were all illegal and there was no accidental shortnesses. This is great, I'd like to see the first legal(non short and non downhill) sub 59 next year! Who can do it I wonder?
