Why would anyone offer someone significant money to sponsor their brand who has been vocal about being against marketing/promotion?

That is the strategy. Sort of like the common man being in favor of Bernie Sanders as he buys another vacation home.
Stay in school. A graduate degree from Georgetown is worth way more than any pro running contract. Yes, you can always go back and get the degree but Georgetown isn't cheap. You would be stuck paying for the whole education which your pro running career probably won't pay for.

Brandt is a 6th year.
He just ran one of the best collegiate 10ks ever.
He could stay at Gtown even tho he’s been at flag or go pro now?
Maybe Tinman would want him lol
But for real dude take the money and run
He might be at Georgetown to get an education (I know, shocking)....not everybody has to go pro right away...
Isn't this his 6th year of eligibility? He already has an education, and moreover, he can still study at Georgetown and go pro at the same time. He's been living at altitude for a while now if I understand correctly and with remote learning, it's easier than ever to get a degree online. With the pandemic, it might not be the best time to go pro if brands aren't signing as many college athletes, but for Robert Brandt is there any reason to stay in the NCAA?
If he can get his education while going pro, what are the advantages for Brandt to stay in the NCAA?

"He already has an education". Are you unaware of the concept of advanced degrees? A bachelor's degree is becoming increasingly irrelevant nowadays. I commend him for pursuing a Masters, he's evidently pretty intelligent as he went to Berkeley, transferred to UCLA, and is now pursuing a Master's at G-town. He obviously values education.
I suppose he could go pro while staying in school, but perhaps he feels he has unfinished business on the NCAA scene. Besides, I think he could get a better payoff if he wins an NCAA 10k championships in the spring.

Why would someone drop out of college in their last semester after going for 6 years? I think he can wait til May to go pro.
27:39 is not really a competitive time, Money is not everything, but having Mansions in several locations, Private Planes and Personal Pilots, Mega yachts and knowing you are set for life Moneywise as are your, children, their children and grandchildren etc. Will take a lot of stress off a person, but if you have all that will you still have the passion to get the 27:39 down to having a shot at the World Record? That is what Brandt will have to ask himself, if he can still motivate himself to get to Cheptegui's level then yes I say Turn Pro, but if having Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates type of money will make him soft then probably not.
I had a friend/teammate who after he won his First Olympic Gold Medal had lots of offers to make Money, but he turned most of it down, lived in a 1 bedroom apartment and limited himself to some small amount for food, to put gas in his car and some entertainment money, he said he wanted to live like when he was in college to stay hungry for the next Olympics (Which he also won) maybe Brandt should do that at least until the 2028 Olympics or 2032 Olympics.

You would be nuts to throw away a master's from Georgetown for $50k. I don't know exactly how they structure these deals, but if they're contractors the take home would be less than you think.
50k might be a generous guess, given that he hasn't won anything and isn't a shoe-in to the Olympics team, too. Plus, there's nothing going on this spring that's worth forgoing your shot at an NCAA title.

It really comes down to how much money? 50k/year? Might as well keep running in school and see if an olympic team gets you up to 100k. 500k? Sign that dotted line.... I am thinking he is a lot closer to 50k than 500k......
He can join TInman and learn how to lay down a vicious kick like Drew Hunter has!!

You have to go sub 27 to be "pro."
Even then Cheptegei would get close to lapping you.
Except that's not how it works at all. Sub-27 makes you world class and a medal threat. Sub-29 (maybe 28:30ish), in the US, will allow most to train somewhere full-time. He beat tons of guys who run full-time.
IMO I would take the Master's degree from Georgetown. Pair that with a UCLA undergrad and he's going to be well set up after he decides to stop running competitively, that is as long as he figures out the logic behind good branding/marketing & stops immaturely picking fights with the well liked/blue collar types in our sport.

I wouldn't say "immaturely picking fights" is bad, I (and probably a lot more people) only know who Brandt because he started a bit of competitive banter with Tinman. I think it's good for the sport, as long as it's not too intense or rude it's fine to have some rivalries. Every other sport has much more intense rivalries between teams and players, so why shouldn't running? It's a pure man vs man (or woman vs woman) competition, so it's easy to hype up a race with a bit of banter. Same thing with Wesfly and tinman, I was actually excited to watch these guys race because they were talking trash and I wanted to see if they could back it up on the track.
27:39 is good enough to go pro as an American. I think the bigger issue is it’s probably a tough time for people to get contracts given the COVID situation. If he could get a legit contract then go pro because who knows what track is going to look like this year in college but I bet most companies are holding out to give out any significant contracts

Tinman is not blue collar and they are not well-liked anymore because people realized they are on overhyped Instagram running club.
I agree with your other points, though.
Just wanted to respond to the Tinman comment. They have a negative rep on letsrun for a reason. Some say that people on letsrun are too critical and such, yet we are just being objective.
People love Tinman. They can't keep their stuff in stock.
Adidas should CANCEL Drew Hunter's contract and sign Brandt.

He can join The Wizard JS and beat his 8k PR while training for the 10,000. And then he will run 30:52 when it matters.

No, high schoolers love Tinman.
People that understand running well do not. As someone who used to like Tinman the last couple years I have realized they provide no real value besides get high school kids excited.
That being said, I do see it can be important for high schoolers to understand the “pro” scene a little more.
Hunter made a team. Austin won the US Marathon Championships. How are they not providing anything?

So getting high schoolers excited about running is a bad thing?
