Shoes for sure, this is a proven thing. Most likely other aides too. It's not about training methods. This is much like what happened in golf with the new balls and spring like effect of the clubface.
For the pros, it is even more pronounced because they have higher swing speeds (impact forces). The tech will not be scaled back, like in the case of swimsuits- because there is BIG$$$ involved. Same in Golf, big money for the ball and club makers when the masses see what the pros can do with them. Nobody swims in comparison.
The biggest losers are the people that ran WRs without this tech, IMO. The cream will always rise to the top in every generation, and the fact is American distance runners suck compared to those in Africa. They have a bigger pool of talent, start earlier, and it's their national sport (got to start young and they have to be peaking when the body does). Running will never be that way here, but soccer may develop some comparable talent that will move into distance running that may be able to compete.
