So the Diamond League came out and announced a bunch of changes.
Most important, the five events the DL cut for 2020 (5k, steeple, 200, triple jump, discus) are back for 2021. And in reality, those events weren't actually cut at all in 2020 because COVID wound up wreaking havoc with the DL.
Other changes include:
-Return of two-hour broadcast window
-Institution of "Final 3" format for field events. The top three athletes advance to the final, with all previous marks wiped out.
-Seven of the events at the DL final in Zurich will be contested as "street" events the day before the main meet.
-There will be a $50,000 for the best performing athlete across the season in each of the five event groups: sprints, jumps, throws, distance, and hurdles.
I'm glad all the events are back, but I don't understand why they're using the Final 3. Athletes and fans seemed to be universally against it when the tried it in 2020.
