I started doing some serious training in late October after slowly working back from Covid and taking a few months of light jogging in the Summer. With the kids back in school and things that have to be done, l have been going to bed at 1:30 am some days,and getting up at 6am to run, then taking the kids to school, and then sleeping for another 4 hours. This isn't every day, but sometimes it's 4 or 5 days straight, then the next week l don't have to do it at all. Yesterday l did a time trial, my first race or time trial of any kind since January of 2020. Now l have been doing some real good workouts, but l preformed EXTREMELY poorly on the time trial. Could it be that l need a few time trials and races before l get in the grove of racing or the lack of sleep with the increased training? I am racing next weekend and don't have to get up early any days next week, so l will be getting 8 hours of sleep all at one time and should l cut back on my workouts because l feel a little mentally exhausted too.
