Um, ok. Congrats Weini!
Good luck Weini!
GO WEINI. Hope you got all that $$$
Anyone got info on the coaching for that team? great/good/crap?
I just got the answer to what Pat Casey is up to nowadays - apparently he is on this same UA team.
Is Hess going to work to get her citizenship too like he is doing such a bang up job doing with Chez
Ew, under armour?
No company is signing athletes to good contracts, so Weini got stuck with UA and the team in Flagstaff, which probably was her only option.
Her value to most companies is next to nothing since she will never put on a US uniform.

Haas will have her injured before you can count to 3.
Shayla Houlihan is her coach.
Why would she depart if she didn't get a nice contract? And Taylor Werner just went pro too. Both these women have been quietly putting in the work, being wildly successful in the NCAA and have the option to cash in. Strike while the iron is hot!! Meanwhile there's the Colorado Buff women, led by media-dependent-for -her-self-worth Rachel McArthur who are all yackety yak but haven't produced at all. All talk. That girl devised her evil plan to travel with Zach Levet, etc for the exposure & upping her 'gram followers, while hatching her backup plan of finding a meal ticket in Hoare. Kelati & Werner didn't have to do that. They kept their noses to the grindstone, flew under the radar in the off season, and have emerged triumphant! They're the examples to emulate & admire! Media over-exposure is stupid & always backfires. Proud of Weini & Taylor for their work ethic & how they've conducted themselves!! Much success!!
Season cancelled in the spring. Season cancelked in the fall. Threats of program cancelation. Why stay? Guessing got a stipend. She is not American or world class.

You two are a *****.
She is VERY good ( holds a ton of Eritrean national records and has pbs of 1514 and 32:09) and likely soon will be an American. For comparison's sake, Jordan Hasay's pbs when she went pro were 15:37 and 32:06 and Kelati won two more NCAA outdoor and xc titles than Hasay ever did (2 to 0 - although Hasay won 2 indoor titles).
We have an article coming out soon but her citizenship is way ahead of King Ches's. I'd be pretty darn surprised if she didn't end up making a US Olympic team.
Now, do I like the timing of the deal? No. I don't get why you can't stay in school for 3 more months. Win another NCAA title then go pro. Would that hurt anyone?
But I sort of get it. The colleges have been consistently telling peoplefor the last 20+ years with their realignments that the only thing in life that matters is money. I mean I'm from Texas and Texas doesn't even play Texas A&M any more in football.
Weini has had a great coaching situation at New Mexico that has allowed her to develop and now will be ruined by the sub-par coaching she is going to get. Haas and Houlihan just don't cut it. Just tragic if you ask me.
You violated your own policy by resorting to insults and name-calling. Nothing I said was meant to be insulting to her so you didn't need to be either. If you think 15:14 for a non-American gets a big contract, you are mistaken. There are a dozen Americans faster than that. I answered the question of why now? Her spring season was cancelled. Her fall season was cancelled. Why would she think there will be another chance for a title? Maybe school is hard for her. Maybe she needs to earn a few dollars to send home. Easy for you to say that she should stick around.

You must not be familiar with Joe Franklin’s coaching if you think he is a “great coaching situation”
Trackfan55: Are you serious???? Only one of the most accomplished coaches in collegiate history in distance running. I guess the many, many athletes that went to New Mexico as underdeveloped and then became great just happened due to........magic. No matter whether you like Joe or not his resume is as good as almost anyone in the country. If you know so much then please list all the collegiate coaches who have accomplished more than Joe with both genders??? I'll help you..Mark Wetmore at Colorado.....please educate me on others.
How long until she moves up to the marathon? She was a stud in HS but never had the speed for the shorter distances. However she always thrived the longer the event and some of her longer training efforts were super impressive. I'm willing to bet 10k-marathon is her future and it is just a question of how long she stays on the track before moving fully to the roads.
Weini and Taylor are both admirable, but why bash Rachel? She's more successful than many former high school stars. And if she wants followers, that's fine! Her followers actively chose to follow her. Did she reject you for Hoare?

Doesn't matter where you're from, that hasn't resembled a real rivalry since sometime long before you were born, Nard dog.
