I am actually a bit surprised that the HC resigned. I know he did a great job recruiting sprinters. Curious what happened there.

I just checked. Matt Esche is, in fact, no longer on UAB's website.
Any inside info? Performance related? I just checked out results and indoor did not go well for his distance athletes. But they were fifth in XC (I know CUSA is not great after top couple, but these schools all typically struggle to recruit and lack support). Did he piss off the Head Coach?
Interesting that I don't see any discussion of Esche on LetsRun so far. He was let go from UAB this weekend after several former runners from UAB and from his days at Bradley posted on social media about being subjected to weight shaming and racism under his coaching.
From today's Fast Women newsletter:
Last week, several former University of Alabama at Birmingham cross country and track & field athletes spoke out about their experiences on the team. It started with a since-deleted post, alleging racism and mental and emotional abuse by head cross country coach and associate head track & field coach, Matt Esche. Others joined in. The original poster said that because the administration had not dealt with the matter in a manner they deemed suitable, they were making their stories public. Eight athletes he had coached at Bradley University (where he was for five years, before coaching at UAB) signed a letter saying they experienced “persistent and egregious body shaming” while being coached by Esche. One former Bradley runner wrote in more depth about her experience. It’s impossible to get a full picture of what went on from snippets on social media, but on Sunday evening, Fast Women learned from two sources close to the situation that Esche is no longer coaching at UAB.

When is Mizzou going to make that move? The tigers looked pathetic this past weekend.
They were pitiful last season and it is getting worst as time goes by.
Who would they replace? Distance? Sprints?
Missouri shouldn't been in the SEC. Problem solved.
This a seat warmer until his dad retires at Hanover?

It's insane that Halter hasn't been fired yet. His coaching staff is a revolving door over the past decade, there's a history of athletes transferring out and having significant success elsewhere, and they quite simply suck considering that they're an SEC school with countless resources. They gave up on recruiting kids and shifted their focus to buying hired guns internationally. No development from any of these studs they're landing with that money, just stagnation. Also, their throws absolutely stink and that's supposed to be Halter's thing. Seriously, what does this guy bring to the table? Do they need to score zero points at SECs for him to be gone? Major credit to Burns on the distance side at least, as he's put together a pretty respectable program there for both genders.
Although you have valid points about MIZZOU and Halter, have you forgotten that 99% of ADs and administrations give 1% sh_t about XC and track programs? Clemson is an example. Nobody at MIZZOU cares if their track and XC teams are national powers. You don’t even know how many scholarships they have or their team budget, etc. if it’s equal to arkansas and the top 4-5 teams in the SEC then you have a more valid argument.

Their budget and scholarship allotment is healthy and fully funded. it has to be in order for them have that many internationals on the team.

No rumors after conference weekend? Olympic year had some major movements in the past. What’s the latest?

While I wouldn’t characterize that situation as a “hellhole,” this wouldn’t surprise me at all either
