bummer
RIP to this woman. Sad news :(
RIP to Andrea.
Reminder to everyone to be careful.
Here's a local article with photos of I think the stream she tried to cross.

Very sad to hear. I guess she passed doing what she loved to do. RIP
This is quite sad. Never a happy day when a fellow runner dies in this manner. You hear about the occasional serious injury such as with Dave Mackey or Adam Campbell, but this is truly devastating.
The stream she tried to cross does not look that different than one I crossed a couple summers ago when up in an alpine environment where slipping would have certainly meant severe injury. I did not think anything of it at the time, but now I will be significantly more cautious or not seek out routes with such high consequence (normally not a problem for where I live).
RIP

You know her?
A trail runner in Utah died a couple years from slipping on the trail and falling a long way. He was very experienced on mountain trails and he was on a trail he'd run countless times. Mountain trail running can be really dangerous, even for very experienced trail runners. Sad to hear this news.

If that is the stream, it looks iced up. One step onto a rock with verglas and you are airborne. I do a fair amount of trail running and lot scrambling and some free solo rock, but stream crossings are where the danger is often the most difficult to anticipate.
Sad news. Be safe out there everyone. Nature can be unforgiving.
Sad story indeed, but she did what she loved. Who could ask for more..
I've raced similar trails in France, Switzerland and Italy. All risky and dangerous, but at Andrea's level, it's something else! These athlete's, ultra's go way further, like hours. I've attended and cheered on these incredible runners, in races that run 30 miles in a day crossing high mountains from Switzerland into Italy and back. All within 48 hours! Seemingly, women are so incredibly tough as Andrea was. God Bless her. The trails can be very dangerous as there are no guard-rails. They are steep, and often strewn with moisture from creeks and rivers..and when you combine a perhaps tired runner, it can get dangerous. RIP Andrea! Allez Hop!

Article says they found her after receiving a tip. From who? Was there a witness? I smell foul play.
Thanks for posting a photo because it really didn't make sense but "crossing" that looks crazy!
How is that a stream? loooks like she's trying to rock climb past a frozen waterfall. I pictured some Indian Jones type wooden bridge over a gorge. I would never attempt to cross what she did. Maybe it's normal and eye opening for me but maybe I'm too risk adverse for that sport.
Not to be a jerk. But genuinely curious. How do you fall 140m crossing a stream? That seems like a waterfall or some other geographic feature besides a stream.
she fell approaching the stream.
the weird thing to me is that HOKA hasn't said anything about it. no condolences. she's their athlete.
