Shouldn't that be STAYS home devastated since they were playing at home? Thought so.
So in the past 2 or so days we've seen :
#3 Villanova lose to Virginia Tech
#4 Virginia lose to San Francisco
#10 Kentucky lose to Richmond
The least surprising here is probably the Villanova loss, as Virginia Tech is an ACC team and has had some NCAA tournament teams that last few years.
Chalk this up to a few things...The biggest being the lack of being able to play and train together as a team due to Covid from the summer and carrying over into the fall.
A lot of amateur "summer league" basketball games that are traditionally a place for a lot of your freshman to get a taste of higher level/college basketball. Add in the relative short amount of practices/pre-season this year. A lot of these teams weren't able to play their normal "pre-season exhibition games". When you have a "younger" roster, this is important, as it gives the coaching staff and roster a time to come together.
Also, the sparse crowds does not help the home teams like it normally would.
Kentucky always starts freshmen one and dones so sometimes they're overhyped and overrated players. Congrats to Richmond.
richmond invests a ton of money into all their sports teams (except men's track). They should be an NCAA tournament team in basketball every year.
They should dominate their conference.
Coach Cal has been phoning it in for a few years now. Doesn't actually coach anymore, just recruits and puts on a nice suit on game-days.
You're correct ! He made just 2 elite eights in the last 4 NCAA s. Three years ago, UK was a gastly 10-8 in the powerful SEC !!
No one can lay an egg like Coach Cal.
Evansville last year.
Richmond this year.
Inexcusable.
The offensive 3 second rule was implemented because of a Kentucky player getting dominated in the key. That has to be a huge embarrassment for them.
