I found myself in Seattle last Friday so I decided to take a run around Green Lake in the afternoon. No, I did not see Jamin, Seattle Prattle, or Hardloper, hanging out there. I haven't run around Green Lake in quite awhile. It was a bit crowded due to it being a holiday. The running/walking direction (counter clockwise) is just one way due to Covid-19 protocols. Almost everyone walking was wearing a mask. A few runners wore masks but a lot did not.
What was really surprising was all the homeless encampments around the lake. Some were small single tents here and there. Others were huge family size tents and others were a mixture of both all congregated together in a cluster of 5-6 tents. I even saw a few single tents that are set up near the water's edge just south of the west community center beach. Obviously prime waterfront but I'm surprised that they are allowed to camp out right there. There is also a large portable shower facility that has been set up and staffed by people wearing safety wear vests and jackets. Looked pretty well organized and well run in addition to looking clean. They say Seattle has a homeless problem and by the looks of things at just Green Lake I would have to agree. I also saw a number of older looking RV's on the SW side of the road. Looks like they haven't been moved in awhile. That section of the road is also closed to vehicle traffic as well as by the aqua theatre and around by the chip and putt course.
All in all it was ok. I felt safe enough but I wouldn't go barefoot around there or anywhere as I would be concerned about stumbling across hypodermic needles and such.
