I don't think Black Lives Matter would do that.
Most likely it never existed.

It's just a troll that knows most people won't read beyond the headline.
Bureau of Land Management....
You got trolled.
Who?
They referenced the bureau in the article as the BLM.
I don’t know if they were aware when they submitted it or chuckled and let it go.
Regardless, the whole appearance and disappearance of this thing is a fun diversion from other news.

No, I trolled you.
Well played, Star.
This story is the gift that keeps on giving.
Crazy metallic monolith is discovered in a remote canyon.
Redditters figure out where it is.
Then it disappears overnight.
BLM.

No, the little green men from Mars came and took it and plant it somewhere else.

I believe the person(s) who originally placed it there removed it, or had it removed.
If they were artists, they may have been the of the thinking that the act of creating art, and the art was of primary importance.
When it was discovered by the BLM, and more importantly other people, and once it started to attract national publicity, it became something contrary to their desired vision for the art.
Not all artists are into publicity, marketing, and sharing their work with others. For some, the focus is all on the creative process. Anything that happens after that is either meaningless or can detract from their creative vision/intent of their work.. Creating art is not always a means to an end but can be the end in and of itself.
When it was discovered by the BLM, and more importantly other people, and once it started to attract national publicity, it became something contrary to their desired vision for the art. So they removed it, They knew exactly where it was, how best to get it there, how it was installed, and thus knew how to remove it.
The sudden mysterious appearance/discovery of the piece, and its subsequent quick mysterious disappearance, may have all been part of the desired vision for the work.
Obviously whoever placed it there did not follow Leave No Trace principles and desecrated a sacred area. They should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Just like all the oil corporations who frack the shiite out of BLM land.

I think it was removed by people having nothing to do with whoever put it there in the first place.
A lot of people were trekking out there to find it.
Someone got there first and took it in the middle of the night.
From one description, it seemed like it may have just been aluminum foil over cardboard.
But the mystery will linger and the legacy will grow.
In 50 years (or one year) they will be talking about the 50 foot tall, two ton steel construction that appeared then vanished.

Did you drive to work or take the bus? If you did either, you’re a hypocrite. Do you use solar for your power at home? If not, you’re a hypocrite.
You can’t have all these luxuries and services, then complain about oil corporations. One goes with the other.

Everybody uses oil. That does not mean we have to accept fracking and all the problems which comes with it. Fracking was never going to solve anything. It was just another pyramid scheme like operation. All fracking wells lose 80-90% of their output in the first year. 2-3 years in you just have to drill another hole. The fracking fluids are very nasty stuff and they stay in the ground forever.
