First, OP, congrats on taking the gap year. Tried without success to get my kids to take one--they'd have been much better off, no doubt.
Second, history is a fine major--but I always urge people to consider a minor (or major) in computer science, as well. Being "the computer guy" is really valuable in a lot of work settings: Even if there's a formal IT department, the ability to do some formatting or create a quick macro or whatever--rather than having to make a formal request to IT--is highly valued.
But, again, history is a fine major. If you enjoy it and can get good grades in it, any major will help you if you decide to go the law-school route.
Actually, I'm a lawyer myself but don't know what to tell you about law school. Certainly the law, at the moment, is pretty much a buyers' market, but that's likely to change in the next several years. A legal education can be a help to you in pretty much any profession, but it's generally pricy (I didn't have to pay tuition, but that's not usual).
