Hoping someone here can help me out or give me some sort of advice.
36 Years old / 135lbs/ 5 years running
Was in low 17min shape. Running about 35-40MPW.
First tibia sfx happened about 2 years ago. Gradually got a pain in my left tibia that would subside when running. Ran/raced on it for a while not knowing it was a real problem. Finally the post run pain got so bad I had to stop. Diagnosed as a sfx through x-ray and MRI.
After this I saw a running specialist PT and did their running analysis program. Found some really obvious problems and weaknesses. Major one being femoral anti version (my femurs rotate inwards a bit when I run) which caused some excessive pronation. I began a strength program to correct these issues. I would do about a half hour of exercises almost every day. I gained a good bit of muscle in my legs. I look like a different runner when I watch a vid of myself on the tm. No more excessive pronation, landing with my foot under my body and such. I thought all was well...
2 months ago I decided to try out the Next% on the track and did a 5k tempo. Noticed the same exact spot on my tibia began hurting the day after this easy workout. It sort of went away after a few days but would nag me here and there after workouts and such. Fast forward to November and its hurting a good bit. Had a HM on the 7th. I dropped out at 5M and could barely walk the rest of the day or the next few. Finally got another MRI and surprise surprise its a sfx.
If I'm going to return to running I feel like I need to figure out why this is happening. I do my easy miles easy, I don't ramp up miles quickly, I rotate shoes and change them out before 500M, and I do all these freakin exercises that were supposed to help me. My diet is clean, I've had all my levels checked and I'm good. I don't run many miles on a softer surface and I have a job which requires me to climb ladders a lot. They are the only 2 issues I can think of that could be causing me to get injured.
Anyone have multiple tibia stress fractures ? Any thoughts on my situation? I can't build my fitness back up and have this happen again.
