Wow! When a 9:39 runner gets beaten by more than 20 seconds, that says that Thorvaldsen the Great is ready to go sub 9:30 with the all time fastest cross country runner, Hutchins. Those track records in the 3k, 2 mile, and 5k will get smashed.
It's going to be an amazing track season!!!

Is it maybe more realistic that Brown just is not a 9:39 runner at the moment? She in fact has never been a 9:39 runner in actual race. Yes she ran an amazing time trial, but perfectly paced time trials do in fact work pretty well for running fast times. But I think it's clear she's not in that kind of shape right now and will likely never run that fast in a race with actual competition.

Nothing against Brown, but I agree
Well maybe that, or Thorvaldsen really is just that good.

She's THAT good...
She is good. I just don't think she will run 9:25 this year. A 9:39 runner should go faster than 16:50 on that course. imho.
No. She was undefeated on the year and just broke the TX course record. It would appear that she is actually improving.
um, look at the times the top girls ran in that TX meet in 2017-2019 and then look and see what happened in Portland. Congrats to Brown on the record but.....

And then got annihilated by Thorvaldson...
Vanderkooi went from 3rd last year at Footlocker Nats (first nonsenior) to 5th in this race.
Results still aren’t up and the video crashed. Who won the boys race?

Yeah, Vanderkooi would have been the top returner at Footlocker, and she wasn't even a factor in this race. Literally, not whatsoever...
Something was not right today for both Vanderkooi and Brown, perhaps they have been injured, or sick, or something

Actually, I think Brown ran well... But Thorvaldson is just simply on a completely different level.
I remember going over this and I got all sorts of blowback. No one wanted to hear it. But that TT was not a valid result even ignoring the lack of controls and certification of the course. It was an assisted time . I thought at the time that getting to draft behind and be paced by runners from wire to wire was worth about 12-15 seconds. It was just basic physics.
More than physics it’s psychology. If you have a male pacer you don’t have to spend mental energy on keeping pace later on. Completely different challenge

And really saying that isn't trying to take anything away from Thorvaldsen(or Brown). I wouldn't be surprised if Thorvaldsen is in 9:35ish shape.

yea, we don't need to rehash that, but that was a perfectly paced assisted effort to an excellent time
