I don't think NFL players are exactly a high risk group for death or serious complications from COVID.
Plenty likely had it in the off season as well. Plenty who opted out of the season likely already had it. Plenty of people doing everyday jobs have had it. If you attempt to determine how much of the US population has had it using the number of COVID deaths and an IFR of 0.26%, you would realize that about 30% of the US population has likely had it at this point. The NFL infection rate is likely lower than the general population due to their insane testing regimen. NFL athletes are at little risk (other than some of the beefy linemen). Look at the US Military. They have had about 75,000 cases and 11 deaths (and most of those were likely older service members). Young, healthy individuals are at little risk of this. Epidemiologists hypothesized that 3-7 NCAA FBS players would die if they played a season (so far, the FBS tally is zero, has anyone even heard of any hospitalizations in FBS football or the NFL?).
Has any NFL player been hospitalized due to Covid?
Probably not, but they may pass on the virus to their own family.?
And so could you. So go lock yourself in your room and never come out again. At least you can watch NFL games while your in there.

Your joking right?
Let me take that back. i imagine you are wll intentioned but not thinking this out like most people.
Why do we care about cases? It appears to me that the vast majority of players are either asymptomatic ( otherwise known as healthy) or have very mild cases.
So far, we've had all of the pro sports come back and zero deaths. A death would be tragic, don't misunderstand me. But these people are making millions of dollars plus entertaining the world. Didn't Marx say religion is the opium of the masses. Well the NFL is in the year 2020.
And do you think these guys are actually getting Covid from playing in the NFL?
I'd be my life that having the season keeps the cases WAY downThink about it. Which of the following is likely to lead to less Covid?
1) You have a bunch of 25 year old multimilliionaires getting tested all the time who know if they test positive it could ruin their team's chances.
2) You cancel the season for a bunch fo 25- year old multimillionaires and tell them you'll see them in June.
Under scenario two, the guys are going to party and what not and never be tested. Under scenario one, they are likely to greatly curtail their social lives greatly and even if they don't they'll find out real quick if they are positive. I think having the season reduces it greatly.
We are being told that to travel for the holidays In order to see family or loved ones is selfish because to do so puts people at risk, and even if you are marginally responsible and make an effort to get tested you are doubly selfish because you are needlessly using up limited resources.
Conclusion: testing athletes everyday is more important than folks seeing family because, well, money stupid

NFL has done a tremendous job with COVID in my book. Last stats I could find had 1/1000 tests coming back positive. That is amazing success. That is lower than the false positive rate so I'm curious how the NFL reports positive numbers. I presume they have a method of detecting false positives.
It's apparent most NFL players want to get paid and work. The NFL has created a healthy work environment where everyone can work and have limited exposure to COVID. I think that is what we want.
In terms of family members, its just like anyone else with a job. If you are in a high risk category and your family member is working you need to take extra precautions. But for most people I don't think that means your family members need to stop working. That is a personal decision and NFL players had the option of not playing this year and I think getting paid something which is a luxury most people didn't have.

Has any NFL family member died from it? Surely that would be big news and potential liability for the NFL.
Doesn't seem to have happened.
Ravens are getting hit. Their practice facility was closed yesterday.
They play the Steelers on Thanksgiving.
It would be telling if they go ahead with the game and it spreads to Steelers or if NFL actually cancels a Thanksgiving game.

Not a single case of on field transmission yet despite several players playing with it and not knowing until the following Mondays. Keep trying.

Not sure that I'm buying it. These guys aren't 6 inches apart much less 6 feet, and they are breathing heavily. They then stand close to each other along with their staff on the sidelines and in the locker rooms with no masks on. Something doesn't add up. I understand that they are young and healthy and probably won't even be hospitalized, but they are celebrities with families who are around a lot of other people. They aren't put in a bubble like the MLB players were. 1 in 1000 +, not buying that either. My guess is that the real #s are being hid because so much money is at stake for so many people.
You started this thread apparently because you think it's too risky for the NFL to keep playing because some players have covid. When people show that the numbers of players and coaches who've gotten it is quite low it seems that rather than rethink your original idea you decide that your original idea is still correct but that the numbers which would support it are being hidden in some sort of conspiracy. And because it's almost always impossible to prove conspiracies don't exist there's no real chance you'd ever need to rethink your original point.

Yep.
We are supposed to believe that people with no symptoms can kill others just by being near them.
Seems that the NFL players are much less likely to get it than you or me which also means that their families are much safer. So why would the OP want to put the NFL players' families at risk by canceling the season?
On average every year 30-40 people die from just playing football in the us. I would argue that the act of playing football is far more dangerous to football players than the virus.

I agree 100%, none of them have been seriously ill. Stop the madness of testing healthy young people at no risk of the virus and safe those tests for those at risk. If we can let grown men juiced up on roids fling themselves at each other there isn't much-added risk of letting them do it with a virus that is less severe than the flu to people under 50.
Let them Play! Let them Play!
The NFL takes some of the most ridiculously gifted athletes in the world and has them smash into each other at full speed dozens of times a week. QBs drop like flies with horrific lower leg injuries. Players develop CTE after their pro careers and end up a pile of mush in an assisted living facility. And you think the NFL cares enough about its players to shut down a season because of COVID 19?
And for the argument that they are all young and low risk, they are not. The NFL owners are all billionaires with cash to burn. Their NFL teams are play toys compared to their massive investment portfolios. The players have a few years to make enough money to be set for life and many wind up crashing out of the pros with injuries before they can make enough money. The NFL should shut down and the owners take a hit to protect the players. There is no point in putting any additional risk on these players who already are putting their bodies on the line week in week out. We have had seasons lost and cut short due to lock outs and strikes and the NFL survived and made tons of money. We can lose a season for COVID 19 and come back strong when a vaccine is available.

Man, you COVID doomers really want to snuff out anything anybody can possibly enjoy.
