I was reading the local subreddit (reddit is a cesspool by the way) for my city earlier today and there was a poster in the middle of a mental health crisis asking for help. A recent transplant with a history of anxiety and depression who has had virtually no meaningful human to human interaction for 10 months. I think it's fair to say that this person is on the verge of self harm or suicide.
The responses from the left leaning and clearly highly COVIDphobic people were astounding. They primarily advised that this person should use online chatting services and walks outside to deal with what is now an acute mental health episode. I think at this point, knowing the low chance of death from COVID, if the alternative is almost certain death from suicide, the solution here would be for this person to get out with some people as soon as possible. But in the eyes of scared masses, any other manner of death outside of COVID doesn't matter.
I always knew people in general were not well holistically speaking prior to the pandemic, but I think one of the many things this pandemic has revealed is how lacking in common sense the average person is. I'm not a COVID denier by any means, but this fear mongering has gone way too far.
