Fastest high school runner ever but 2 or 3 guys are bothered that she knocked Tuohy off of the record. That seems to be the issue. I hope these few old men will be happy for the big three this year when all of them knock off a bunch of track records. I expect all 3 of them to break 9 in the 3k.
I care a lot about fast HS times and great performances.
I hardly care about Hutchins' 15:58 at Huntsville, and it is not because she is the one who ran it,...I would feel the same if Tuohy had run the time at that course, or Mary Cain had, or Mary Decker, or anyone you name.
The reason so many people are analyzing the performance is the course is rated fast.
This is already discussed at length by many posts.
To illustrate it is not about Hutchins, but about the course, I was reading online about Tom Graves who is one of the few to break 14 minutes at Detweiller Park in IL HS CC Championships. Graves ran 14:18 as a sophomore on a rainy day with mud patches, so that experts at the race said it cost the runners 10-13 seconds. Therefore, Graves ran 14:08 (or faster) if the course was dry. His junior year, he won in 14:08 on a day so cold that he might have broken 14 minutes as a junior in more typical weather, and only Craig Virgin had done that. Graves senior year he runs 13:56.
Therefore,
I do care about Hutchins' great 3200m.
I do care when Josh Methner beat Craig Virgin's 3 mile CC record at Detweiller Park because it is almost the same course ( course was lengthened by about 2 seconds)
Maybe the Huntsville times will mean more when there is Huntsville course race next year.
