family was planning on gathering for thanksgiving, about 15 of us. i tested positive today so all plans are off. it takes ones person to ruin the event. thanksgiving really isn't even that special and if everyone wants to go ahead and join in some super spreader events and put the US even further behind then so be it.
The mindset that "everythings been cancelled" and proceeding to ignore public guidelines is the exact reason why we're still in this mess (while other countries have much more limited guidelines in place). As to why I tested positive i actually i have no idea, went outside once in the ten days prior to run with one friend for 45 minutes. if thats how i got it kinda goes to show how easy it is to catch/spread this. be a bigger person and skip one thanksgiving bro
F--- it, I'm going to Thanksgiving.

did that friend also test positive?
-
not yet, i started getting symptoms about 3-4 days after i saw him so i notified him that i was getting a test and then took another 4 days for the results. its been 8 days since i saw him and he has no symptoms and hes not really interested in getting a test.

Gee.
You'd think I would know someone who got sick from this by now.
Wonder how the CDC number of 250k dead actually means 380k dead -
Weird disease.
You have to take a test to find out your sick.
Every time I have been sick during my lifetime I knew it due to the way I felt and the symptoms. -

if this is your argument for it being some sort of conspiracy this is another reason why we (america) is still on lockdown. we have to get tested bc, yes, a vast majority of the population is unaffected when they are positive coronavirus. the real trouble is that the rest of the population is actually at risk to die or risk severe illness. Most people can carry (and pass) the virus unknowingly.
you have to as the symptoms are extremely similar to other common illnesses and can determine whether or not you should quarantine yourself. no s**t you can tell when youre sick, i knew i was getting sick, so i was like damn maybe i should go get a covid test even though i havent (knowingly) been in contact with anyone that has it. now im forced to quarantine from my family as i have a grandparent and an aunt who were planning on coming for thanksgiving but would be at serious risk if i exposed them. -

That Unkle guy's argument is that a "handful of globalists are running the world" and they have somehow conspired to create a fake, worldwide pandemic, to enhance their power and fortune. I'm not kidding, that's what he promotes.
And when asked MULTIPLE times to name the "handful of globalists" behind this scheme, and whose identities he claims to know, he won't list them, ignores the request, and usually runs away from the thread. So asking him for the list of globalists is often a good way to get rid of him, if he's cluttering things up too much. -

Everything's been cancelled all year, nothing's gotten better, so f--- it let's eat a turkey.
1) If you go to a Thanksgiving gathering with people whom you do not live with, you are an idiot. Do you love them? Do YOU want to get sick and maybe die?
2) For turkey? Turkey sucks. Slather it with gravy and it's ok, but good enough to risk your life for or the lives of others you might love? No.
3) If you love turkey so much, go make one yourself. It's super easy...just takes a long time in the oven. Big deal.
Can't emphasize this enough -- if you gather with people that you don't live with, you are a moron.
Have fun with your zoom Thanksgiving, I’m a Moran and looking forward to it. -

99.5% of people or so survive covid and that includes all the 80+Year olds on ventilators who got it and died.
I’m already gathering with family members. I’m going to see them -

My God, what a long winded diatribe.
I simply made the observation that I have never heard of a virus where you needed to take a test to know you were sick. -

Right.
Because the people running things in secret publish their names so that we all know.
Makes sense. -
It has been proven that SarsCoV2 is transmissible from human to domestic cats, and from cats to cats. For a respiratory pathogen like this, it is incredibly likely that once you've proven these two transmission routes, the third possibility (cat to human) is also in play.
Think about this for a moment and you will realize that containment of this virus once it is already widespread in a community is completely impossible. Everyone needs to go back to acting like normal people and shed this magic spell of fear that they've allowed to be cast over them. The virus will do what the virus is gonna do. Our immune systems will adapt, some elderly will die. Let's get on with it already.
It's also proven that antibodies to other human coronaviruses are cross reactive to SarsCoV2. So the more you are out and exposed to other coronaviruses, the better shape your immune system will be in when you are inevitable infected with SarsCoV2.
(No I'm not going to provide links to the two studies I just mentioned. Put on your big boy pants and go find them yourself you idiots. It's not hard to do.)
The standard narrative of "slow the spread" and all the testing of young healthy people and the other nonsense is the exact opposite of what we should be doing if we wanted to mitigate the damage from this virus. And to all the people who use shame tactics and other authoritarian coercion on those of us who think for ourselves and have been saying for 8 months that we are handling this virus completely wrong, there is a special place in hell for you all.
Go to thanksgiving dinner with your family everyone. In fact, see how many other non-family you can invite over as well. And tell them to bring their cats so we can get this nonsense over with. -

Nah. I’m tired of skipping stuff. Been skipping practically everything for almost a year, and what good has it done? Has it helped AT ALL? Nope.
Just continuing to be asked to skip stuff, more rules, more BS. I’m done with it. We should have Sweden’d this thing from day 1. We’d have been past it months ago. -

Lol everything is political for boomers. Keep crying about the Trump election or whatever, just know those of us under 50 think its "uncool" (to use slang) to define yourself by your political party. -
The ignorance and selfishness on this thread is beyond the pale. I guarantee that none of the people on this thread who think we should let the epidemic continue uncontrollably are nurses or doctors.
