What kinda future can he expect? Louisiana's top class is 5 A, FYI. He ran a pretty swift 15:18 for 3 miles with good conditions, and was a second behind 1st place. His indoor PR last year was 9:47, but he is improving.

Quarter scholarship to LSU, Ole Miss, less (walk-on, maybe books) at Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas, more (half scholarship) at Mississippi State, Auburn, Houston, Baylor, Alabama, Florida, even more (full ride) at McNeese State, U Louisiana Lafayette, U Louisiana Monroe, Northwestern State, Lamar, SHSU, SFASU, Texas State, UT San Antonio, Troy, Arkansas Little Rock, Nicholls State. In theory, it all depends on who is graduating and who else is being recruited at any of these schools.
They all ran around that time, look at what track times they hit and figure out what schools would take them
These offers are way high in general. No possibility of 25% from LSU or Ole Miss. No way the other mid majors schools listed would offer a full scholarship of athletic aid only.
9:47 is glacial. walk on maybe a few d1 schools. I'm at a small d1 school and our top guys ran sub 9:10 in hs

I think to be fair in this current climate, you might assume that had the young man had a full outdoor season, he would have dropped that 2 mile time down into the 9:30s. So, I'd project him between 9:15-9:25 this year, which isn't shabby, but definitely not worth a full ride or even half scholarship at a DI school. I'd advise him to walk on somewhere that he'll get good coaching, have talented teammates to train with and have a shot at earning a scholarship down the road.
And his father was a good runner also. Good genetics. I don't know kid, but best of wishes with it. Don't ever stop running.

A think 9:15 is not realistic, maybe 9:35.
There are many runners staying and extra year which will make it very tough for the next few years. And teams are looking to decrease roster sizes at the same time. This kid is lucky to walkon anywhere.
9:47? Good luck being even a walk-on at all but the most crappy of D1 schools

Not fast enough for D1 scholarship money. Full stop.

The question is Olympic material or hobby jogger?
I placed 6th in XC and 2nd in 3200m at state and got a full ride to LA Tech. Caveat: I graduated in 2011. If you race well and a coach believes in you, as he did me as I was quite raw, it will pay off.
No you didn't. What is your name? My son ran there that year and he says that your claim is absolutely false.

Jenson McHue.
Jack McAlpine
No money, but being from Louisiana probably a lot of upside. Might be able to parlay that to a "merit" scholarship at some D3s.
Actual coach here...
The athlete in question could potentially walk on to LSU with good academics. Franks is doing a good job there, but I don't think they have expectations or money.
Lafayette, Monroe, SELU, La Tech, Northwestern St, Nichols, would for sure allow those times on and some may offer a small partial scholarship. Same with HBU.
Which one? I'm confused
