We still can't believe that they wouldn't schedule the meets at least a week apart.

A double would be quite exciting to see. If an athlete from a not so great team qualifies for both champs, maybe they could double either the 3k or 5k with the NCAA XC race.
With the Olympic year upcoming, I suspect it’s actually a blessing in disguise to get this extended period of strength in for the top track contenders. Indoors is going to be more important for sprinters, I think, who can get sharp and peak indoors and then again in August.
indoor track should just be cancelled. Cross country only. Non-distance runners can wait until outdoor track.
Spoken like a true distance runner. Cancelling XC makes more sense than indoor because then everyone can compete.

Except indoor has legitimate super-spreader possibilities. Lots of people breathing heavily, little circulation, limited room to distance, tons of surfaces, lots of in and out. Cross is much less risky.
So what? Basketball will be played. Don't go to the games if you are scared.
Who cares? Just don't go if you're afraid, like the other guy said. Let indoor go on, that way all people can compete
Still, only three hours driving from Fayetteville to Stillwater, so logistically a team could do both. It is a strange situation.
So what? Don't go to an indoor track meet if you are scared.

10/10 troll attempt, nobody is this stupid.
Why not just celebrate it as a really cool few days of awesome competition? March Madness
Kinda wish Ches was still in college. He would double or triple at Indoor and then go race XC.
Okay, whatever.
Well both will be cancelled so not an issue
Nobody is stupid enough to run indoor or to spectate? I don't understand your insult. Thousands of people will be happy to do both.
Silly statement when all sports are taking place right now and a vaccine is coming. Don't be such a downer. Thousands of runners competed in Terre Haute last weekend from all over the country. It will be much easier to hold an NCAA meet when people are being tested.
Vaccine won't be available until late spring early summer at the earliest. This also assumes people take it. The only way these championships take place is if the students are bubbled... and it won't happen for track or XC. Plus this is after a Biden administration gets in and will force governors to shut this country down for a min of 6 weeks. Enjoy your freedom now, shutdowns are coming.
High school championships are happening. Many states held indoor volleyball championships and even indoor football championships in domes. National HS cross country meets are taking place. Major college conferences held conference XC meets. NCAA football is holding games and plans to hold a playoff. How could XC not take place?

SOME high school meets are happening. NCAA football is wreck right now.
Some? This Saturday will go down as the fastest high school meet in history. Officials are predicting at least 20 guys under 15 minutes and 100 guys under 15:30. NXN and Footlocker have never come close.
We should take an introspective view of what this says about our sport(s). In reality, cross country and indoor track were created as "off season" preparation for outdoor track. We (NCAA) have turned them into full on sport seasons.
Cross Country coaches in the article said they want to see cross county as their own sport. Do these same coaches want to follow the NCAA manual and limit spending to 5 men's scholarships and 6 women's scholarships in that sport?
We see that having distance athletes running 3 seasons is TOO MUCH. the best coaches in the sport say so in the article.
There should be cross country scholarships, and those athletes can run outdoor track, but NOT indoor.
There should be track scholarships and those athletes can run indoor and outdoor track but NOT cross country.
Cross country teams should all have the same reasonable maximum # of scholarships on their roster (which already exists for cross country only programs.)
Athletes should be limited to 2 seasons for their own health and development.
And then....we should keep it so that cross country and indoor are run at the same time. You will see that the coaches and athletes will adapt just fine this year.
