I should have started reviewing this thread from the beginning. I was getting nervous going through 4 pages without seeing Air Supply.
While they were a one hit wonder, I hold a special contempt for the band Finger Eleven for invading my brain with their ear worm song "One Thing". It is the epitome of the white guy lip biting garbage that pervaded the post grunge 2000s. Google it. It is not a parody. it is a real song that got a lot of radio play for a short period of time. Through them, I can channel my hate for all the uber white frat boy bands that killed off rock music in the aughts (Creed, Nickelback, Train, etc.).
On a similar vein, but with much more of an outgrowth of metal/hard rock, is Evanescence. This encompasses the Axe body spray wearing date rapists' favorite jams and includes bands in the same genre like Limp Bizkit, Lincoln Park, etc. Heavy distortion guitar riffs with white dudes rapping over them is something that should have never happened outside of Rage Against the Machine.
Since Phish has already been addressed, it is necessary to bring up (trigger warning) Jimmy Buffet. What happens when you combine rock, folk, calypso and country? Nothing. But having lived in Ohio in the 90s, every freaking bar that wasn't some chug 'n puke college dive would play Buffet at some point or have a bad Buffett cover band and people would blow a nut over it. Buffet sounds like a middle aged accountant who dreams about leaving it all to go play gigs in Key West.
Taylor Swift deserves a mention just to leave you all with this:
