Ferlic's 8K time converts to 30:00 for 10K. NCAA was won in 30:32 last year.

Interestingly, today's SR results seem right in line with the results from the NXR for 2014-2019, which suggests that the windy conditions did not impact the times of the runners much today - at least relative to whatever the course conditions were in those other years.
It is a shame Hutchins, Brown and Thorvaldson don't get a chance to run against each other at FL Nationals - the Balboa Park course record might be in jeopody.
Windy conditions is normal for Terre Haute.
I didn't find the wind to be much of a factor on Saturday. It wasn't as strong as on Sunday, but I think it was from the SW on both days. I didn't notice it much on the back end of the course, as the tree line helped block the wind. It was at your back on most of the uphill portions. Only really noticed on the main straightaway and the downhill portion from 2k to 2.5k.
Thorvaldson has the most powerful style of any girl I have seen in XC; it looks like she is cranking off a 400m track time trial the entire way.
Greer also has this style. In fact, in terms of form they look like brother and sister.
Tuohy's amazing 5K record could get threat this year if Sydney gets a crack at it.
Beadlescombe looks to be about 6'2" and built like Solinsky.
Why the "would have"? Is there something special about Nike being the sponsor? Newbury Park won today. Celebrate it. Nike and Footlocker will be in trouble next year. People lived the race today and the organizers plan to continue it. Why woukd the best teams want to have to run a regional meet when this race will allow them to go straight to the national meet? The Runninglane race next week looks more looks more loaded with individuals for guys than either of the two cancelled meets ever looked.
You must be new to the sport or just delusional. When you have nine regions represented plus five individuals from each region you have the best competition that earned their way. Every top runner boys or girls are competing in one or both of these championships. Your flights, hotel, food, new uniforms, plus gear is free. You can't compare Runninglane to Footlocker or NXN.
This meet was great and well run on a historic course during a difficult xc season.
You must be new to the sport. Many top runners skip NXN in favor of Footlocker or just to end the season. The other problem with the regional qualifying season for NXN is that a few of the regions were incredibly weak last year such as the Heartland Region which had 15:20 type guys going to nationals while many sub 15 guys were eliminated in other regions. In an event that is happening next week, there will be nearly 100 guys competing who have gone sub 15:30 this year. That has never come close at NXN.
And the point about Newbury Park and NXN pertained to teams. So which team could have beaten Newbury Park that did not compete? Do you realize that there are numerous teams who make it to NXN that do not even win their state meet? I have taken a team to NXN but it was only because a few better teams from other states did not show up at NXR. I had an individual qualify for NXN also. He was state champ but finished 75th at NXN because he had no business being there. He would have finished 20th in other stronger NXRs.

I did not mean to imply there was anything special about Nike or NXN. But we know the best teams in the country went there last year, and the results from yesterday seem to indicate NP would have won in a walk. Maybe all of the best teams in the country this year were there Sunday, I don't know. If this event is held in the future I think it will have to be fairly early in the season otherwise you have teams and individuals having to make choices like some already have to between NXN and FL. Maybe this becomes a late October event, 2 weeks or so after Manhattan?
That is sort of a circular argument. You know the best teams were at NXN because someone told you they were. There were many state champion teams that did not participate at one of the regionals.
This event announced yesterday that it plans to continue next year. It will be interesting to see if they booked the facility so that Nike is unable to use it for its chosen date. Some of the Nike and Footlocker regionals are held on courses that people are not fond of and many kids and especially parents like the idea of telling people that they competed at nationals. Terre Haute is centrally located and the course is universally liked.

Not to say I am doubting you, but how about some names of the "many" state champion teams from last year that did not run at a NXR?
Course was soft after a significant rain on Saturday night. Course managers deserve a lot of credit for getting the course as fit as possible to race... they were out early with pumps and blowers draining the puddles and doing the best they could.
The wind was rough, but the impact was not as big as it might have been... mostly a cross wind, most of the time on the start/finish plane. A head wind down the hill through the K. The tree line shielded the run through the mile mark. Runners got alternating push/resistance looping back up to the finish level.
Guys who competed in the Ohio State Meet ran an average of 4-5% slower at Terre Haute after factoring in last week's warm afternoon temps.

Do you have a link to the speed ratings?

It takes about 5 minutes to search a bunch of state champ teams to see if they competed. I know off the top of my head that there were 9 state champ teams in Kansas and Wisconsin of which only 3 traveled to South Dakota to compete. There are about 200 state champ teams so if we apply that percentage, that means about 137 state champ teams did not compete.
Well let's take an example. It looks like Middleton won the Wisconsin boys division 1 in a fairly close competition with Stevens Point (104 to 116) and did not go to NXR. Stevens Point got 2nd at NXR to Mounds View (125 to 177). Those 2 teams came in 19th and 21st in Portland.
I don't think there is a case to say that Middleton would have affected the places of the top 5-10 teams at NXN, no insult to Middleton. Perhaps you can suggest a team that would have placed high in Portland, but chose not to compete to get there? A quick glance at the Kansas state meet results does not show me a team that would have competed well in Portland (against the best).
I do not mean to slight any of these teams, but this all started from a comment I made about NP likely dominating if NXN had been run this year and I see no reason to change that.
Actually, Middleton did race at NXR last year, but took 4th there.

If Silver Medalist Chelimo was still with Scott Simmons he might have won.
Ah I missed that! But I guess I only looked at the top 3! Further to my point, a state champion team winner that would not have likely done well in Portland against the best of the best, such as NP.
