What times in the 800/1600/3200 would be needed to run at a respectable D1? Doesn't have to be Oregon or anything crazy just a decent team. (This assuming the school is a good fit for academics team culture etc, I'm not limiting myself to D1 and I know school is for academics and stuff, I'm just curious.) Also, is senior year too late to get recruited for T&F? I'm a junior and my times aren't anything stellar but it's not unrealistic for me to run some decent times next year so I'm curious.
Recruiting Question?

Rough numbers for an average team 1:54-4:20-9:20.

Bump, also curious about this

Auburn finished 12th at the SEC, a very weak XC conference.
Greetings and thank you for your interest in the Auburn Track and Field/Cross Country progam. information about our program. Please be sure to review our scholarship and walk-on standards listed below. Athletes interested in cross country will be evaluated on their placing at the State Championships, Footlocker and Nike Regional and National competitions. Each year there is a limited number of roster spots and scholarships available and the competition for these scholarships is very tough. If you have met the walk-on or scholarship standards we encourage you to contact us.
FULL PARTIAL WALK-ON
800 1:49.00 1:51.00 1:54.00
1600 4:04.00 4:10.00 4:16.00
3200 8:45.00 9:05.00 9:15.00 -
No it's not too late to get recruited. Just reach out to the school's you're interested in. Times vary from school to school. Some D3s are better then D1s and so on. Don't get caught up on the division. Make a list of what you want out of a school. Academics, running, social, financial , location etc. Everyone will have a different preferred order that fits them individually then decide.

It troubles me that people rarely include price in their criteria.

Another Option:
My daughter just committed to a NJCAA school. She'll go there for two years then transfer to a 4 year school. If her running improves enough over the next two years, she'll run for a D1 team after she transfers. Her times are about 2:35, 5:30, 12:00, 20:00. I think this was a really good option for her as she isn't 100% sure on her major yet. -
Bad option unless the runner is dumb. Smart kids can attend a real college for less money than a JUCO.

800 - 2:10
1600 - 4:50
3200 - 10:40 -
Depends what you want. Most mid-major teams will take anyone who has run 1:58/4:30/9:40 as a walk-on. Power 5's will usually take 1:56/4:20/9:25 as walk-ons, which typically could earn you money at some mid-majors. It all depends on the situation of the teams. One of my top schools who was a mid-major was at a point where they were at their peak, and had almost no money to give out, while my other top choice was graduating a lot of guys and had a lot to throw my way. A lot of times these things all come down to whether the school has a spot for you or not, and some years they might, others they might not.

You clearly don’t understand how college recruiting works. Do not listen to this guy. SEC is one of the stronger conferences in the NCAA in the top 3rd. Issue is lack of depth, not lack of quality -
8th best 5k in SEC 2020 was 14:19. 1st was 13:41.
8th best 5k in B10 2020 was 13:59. 1st was 13:31.
The SEC is a joke when it comes to distance running. -

All you did was prove the point... you cherry pick the top 8 though like there wasn’t a 17 second gap between 7 and 8. You know because of lack of depth. 7th in the B10 - 13:59. 7th in SEC - 14:02. Beatlescomb was also 13 seconds faster than second in the big 10 -
Please post some stats then to prove that the SEC is equivalent to the B10. It is embarrassing when people try to claim that a team or leage is good because they didn't really lose by as much as it seems. The SEC is a joke.
-
8 is the number scorers in a tra k meet. Next you will want to compare cross country by looking at 6 guys instead of 7 on a team or 4 instead of the 5 who score. Either way, the SEC still loses to the B10.
-
Kinda depends I would say, if they like you and you can convince them you have a lot of upside, you may get a shot.
Men's: 1:56 - 4:25 - 9:30
Women's: 2:16 - 5:10 - 11:40 -
BTW... Arkansas Women won the last NCAA Track and XC championships that were contested.
-
I thought we were discussing men's distance running. Why not throw in football if you want to make a case for other sports?

That wasn’t the point of the argument. What was said before was that the SEC has good teams and individuals that contend with the rest of the country but lacks depth. Yeah 8 is who scores, but through 7 the SEC and B10 are very comparable, especially considering SEC teams don’t run a whole lot of indoor 5ks. You can go look at the TFRRS from last indoor, it’s not that hard. If you include the outliers of each conference on both ends, sure that called cherry picking, that’s why they’re called outliers. Take out the 8th ranked guy in the SEC and the conferences are almost identical besides B10s top guy way out in front of everyone. Hardly what reasonable people outside letsrun would consider a joke. Never said it was a better conference, just not a joke
