No joke.
The older, liberal members of my family are convinced that Trump faked his cv-19 diagnosis and paid off all those doctors at Walter Reed to go along with his scam.
They're convinced it's a death sentence.
It has been for 240,000 Americans so far.
With a median age of 80 plus, 94% of whom had at least one other life threatening condition, and nearly half of these deaths taking place in nursing homes (with a median life expectancy of five months), how many of these 240k people do you suppose would still be alive by year's end if there were no covid?
I don't get why this is lost on everyone. No one is saying that the lives of the elderly are disposable, but we are destroying the lives of millions of children by what we are doing to (attempt to) protect mostly 80+ year olds. I'm literally sitting in a classroom right now with 1 student in it sitting at laptop. This is my first day in school since the end of Oct. because we had to positive asymptomatic test results and I was "exposed" to them. These kids are truly f'd. And the politicians who claim to care so much about the poor and disadvantaged are doing nothing but broadening the already wide achievement gap. It sucks. And if you think we have a shrinking middle class now, let's look at things in 15-20 years when we have a generation of kids who not only grew up poor, but grew up with no education, no socialization, greater risk of abuse, etc. Meanwhile, an email went out to all principals in NYC last night to prepare for another extended school closing.
