High School Coaches: Since XC is officiated by high school coaches themselves, have you ever purposely disqualified an opposing runner for the benefit of your own runner/team? Be honest.

Nope. But many local coaches are constantly trying to harp on things like the uniform rule to try and disqualify runners. Pretty sad. It's a stretch for my school to get 7 kids on the starting line sometimes, let alone 7 matching uniforms.
We have officials at all of our meets and coaches are not in a position to disqualify anyone except their own athletes.
As far as the topic and other greasy coaches, I have run into times when the other coaches have tried to find devious ways to win like finding one of the JV boys to run my girls into the ground on a course "walk" prior to a dual meet. That happens.
I actually did the opposite while helping at a track meet. I couldn't bring myself to call a handoff out of the zone and disqualify a rival team.
I should have got disqualified in a XC dual meet years ago, and the other kid too, but it didn't happen. I was running along kind of slowly as I wasn't that fast because I'm a wrestler not a runner. I just do XC to lose weight and get in shape for wrestling season. Anyway, there was a tree up ahead on the left. Also a left hand turn. I was on the left side and this big kid was to the left of me. I was running straight for the tree. He kind of elbowed me to get over but I didn't move. Then he yelled at me. I just stayed there. He had to fall in behind me as there was no where else to go. After rounding the tree he slugged me in the back. I just stopped right there and decked him. Then I continued on and finally finished in a very uneventful time and place.
Why get DQed? Didn't have your shirt tucked in?
My son who was about 115 lbs ran a kid into a tree as a freshman, cruised to a 23:00. I was kinda proud of him that day. If there were a lake on the course, the other kid would have likely gone for a swim.
There are a lot of scum bag coaches out there that will win at all costs. I hate it when they are meet officials.
