I don't get it. This wasn't that great. There was a couple of funny things but there was nothing amazing. Meh.
I'm with you. Dave Chappelle is a funny guy - he's a great comedian. But I think there has been this weird cross-over into his views on politics/social justice where I am not quite sure he has found the right formula in terms of integrating it with his comedy. Reverting to the tried and tested shock value of the N-word just doesn't do it for me (by the way, I don't care who you are, what race you are and what your justification is - using this word on a show like SNL in the year 2020 isn't smart of edgy - it's lazy and unnecessary).
So again what exactly what "brilliant" about it? I guess the bar for brilliance these days has been really lowered. Was it brilliant because of his race? Was it brilliant because of the luxury of the timing (the very day Biden became president elect?) Or was it "brilliant" because it's Dave Chappelle and we love him so much for his prior work that we just want to believe it is that way no matter what comes out of his mouth. I'm going to go with all three - but no, there were some funny moments but nothing amazing. "Meh" is a good adjective.
