Stop it.
Makes sense, their football program doesn't bring in any money whatsoever. Probably hard for a small-time athletics school like little 'ole Clemson to support running financially
"Men’s track and field has been sponsored at Clemson since 1953, claiming 23 combined ACC Team Championships, 16 individual NCAA champions, 22 Olympians and four Olympic Gold Medalists. "
Wow - this decision is terribly disappointing.
Terrible decision. Strong track legacy. Morons making short-term decisions. May they stub their toes (or worse).
Athletic Director Dan Radakovich who also drove Georgia Tech's program into the ground, now attempting to do the same thing at Clemson. But thank goodness they added a softball team.
Damn! What's next, UVA?
Straight outta Dan Radakovich's playbook...cut both the men's and women's programs in half around 10 years ago at Georgia Tech. That time he didn't honor any student-athlete's scholarships. Rest assured, whatever comes out of Radakovich's mouth is a lie. Whatever reasons he gives for the cuts, are not the reasons. Either he needs a raise or football needs more money. Those are the two main priorities for him, in that order. Worst AD in the business.
The significance of this can't be overstated.
Power 5, #1 football team that builds locker rooms with water slides, and they find men's track and field expendable.
Schools know that is cheapest to have the least amount of sports required, so Clemson just went to the minimum. Will cost 3 coaches jobs, and savings on equipment, travel, scholarships.
This is the first domino........strap in for a bumpy ride.
The problem is if you want championships in football or basketball, the coaching and staff salaries are going to eat up your budget. And a lot of your revenue has to be shared with the rest of the conference.

Clemson axes Mens XC and Track Teams
What did Clemson axe them?
I have to comment again, I am sorry. This just makes me so mad. I was an ACC runner and competed against these guys so many times. I feel like throwing my computer out the window.
I am so sorry to the current athletes and alums.
Well, he does say that it is the "best long-term interest of Clemson Athletics" so it must be unavoidable. Maybe Trevor Lawrence needed a new car.
He's not kidding. Maybe get rid of the mini golf course and keep the track team? Absolutely crazy.
Is the team going to protest this “racist” decision like Brown did to save the team?
You could run Clemson track/XC for the cost of equipment and scholarships . Think about it. They have XC course, indoor and outdoor track facilities. Wouldn’t have to spend a dime on travel. Is there any way this makes financial sense, seriously?
Maybe field a team of walk ons, you know, and just give it the ol' college try. Race in the spirit of competition.
UNC is next .
This makes it official- no one is safe

Yeah, I remember sitting in meeting with the head track coach saying. we have no money because OUR FB sucks and is not making any bowls and the stadium is not full. I understood completely, I didn't agree, but CLEMSON and DABOY should be ASHAMED they have plenty of money for FOOSBALL, THEY SUCK AND DABOY sucks as well. They pay Dabo 9 million a year, could they pay him 7 and have track and XC, you bet they could, but they won't.
