I've been running for almost half a century and have seen lots of fads come and go. I love the tremendous growth in big races like Boston and Peachtree but am disappointed in the depth (or lack thereof) of talent in smaller races. Once you get past the prize money (top 10 or 20) the times drop off a cliff. There aren't nearly as many runners in the sub-elite as used to be. The times I ran 40 years ago would win many of the same races now, where I didn't even get AG awards in most of them back in the day.
Tactics.
Like running slow for most of the race and then faster at the finish makes you a genius.
Heart rate training... just a waste of time.
Ultras.. I respect anyone that can go 50 miles plus, but I dont care nor do I have any interest in times, records, etc. great u lived. awesome.
Strava records.. wtf cares that you are #50th fastest person on the local bike path?
'Fueling' and 'hydrating'. I just eat and drink.

Icing full stop. It simply doesn't work for me.
It doesn't work for most of us, except in acute trauma (e.g. sprained ankle). FOr most overuse injuries it only delays healing.
Mobilization + heat (after first 36 hours) is the fastest way to healing.
Increasingly, pro running at the top levels. Drugs were bad enough, but the boing boing shoes and pacing lights have pretty much killed it for me.

Cool downs, not saying they're useless, I'm just not interested. And they're almost useless.
They’re useless. Has anyone ever woke up the next day and said “wow I’m sure glad I did that cool down?” If you need extra miles that’s one thing but jogging after a race or workout is not going to make you less sore. Cool downs are for p*ssies.
Man, you guys really don't like running!
long runs , intervals,
American politics. That is a part of running right? Why else would half the threads on this site be about politics?

I like running, even a lot of the things listed here, But it's healthy for people to admit that some things don't matter as much as people sometimes say. We obsess about the perfect buildup, when the difference between a perfect buildup and a half-assed buildup is worth something like 5-7 minutes total in a marathon, if that.
