Last year I got a pair of Pegasus 36's in the University of Florida colorway, with the Gator head logo and everything, as a Secret Santa gift from r/artc. I bought my guy an $18 running t shirt, and the guy who had me sent me the shoes.

New Nike Zoom Victory Elite 2 Spikes for $29 on eBay, just because there was an orange dot on the shoe
Went into Academy Sports with some year old Pegasus shoes, tried on some Vomero’s, put the Pegs in the box and walked out.
Several years ago an online camping store (!) was closing out their Skechers GoMeb Speed 3's (the shoe that won the 2014 Boston Marathon) for $40 and free shipping. I cleaned them out of my size. It's still the best all-around do-everything running shoe I've ever worn.
I sent a letter (80s) to Brooks, and wound up wearing prototype shoes through much of high school. Cost was nothing, but I would send them back after 200 miles (trainers), and 25 miles (flats and spikes), so I guess shipping was my cost.
More recently, I find stuff at department stores (Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Kohls, etc.), or online at shoe-bak-a, and never spend more than $30-35.
Free shoes when I was running in college from the team. Also sweats and all the typical stuff.
Since then I go to the Brooks truckload sale that they have twice a year in April/October in Bothell, WA. Last two have been suspended due to Covid-19. Factory seconds but mostly cosmetic. Some have really been lame like they put the wrong color insole in the shoe so have to sell it as a "second". I can live with that.
At a thrift store I found a brand new pair of pegasus turbos with literally no sign of use. Ebay I have got some really smoking deals on shoes too
90 bucks for next %”s after stacking Black Friday coupons and cash back
At the back of the First to the Finish catalogue, they have a deal called "grab bag spikes" or "grab bag flats" Give em' your size and you get a shoe for $14.95. Same catalogue, if you wait for the release of new models of shoes, you can find the older model for cheap. 14.95, 19.95, and 24.95 are not uncommon prices. I look for those deals and then order dozens for my team. I've gotten a number of really good shoes that way.
The best deal ever was $5.00 for a pair of Zoom Milers at the CA state CC meet. VS athletics sets up a tent there and usually has a table for "blow out specials". The pair that I got was a model year that was pretty old and the shoes were pretty big, so there weren't a lot of takers, but I ended up giving them to a kid who wore them for 3 years before they fell apart. I told him I got them on a 96 percent discount.
I bought some Adidas Bostons for $60.
If you look on ebay or Poshmark you can find a lot of older models for deep discounts.
I also have bought a shoe from Poshmark it was nice and comfortable for me
Free!
Shoes supplied from the school for all scholarship athletes.
One of my friends was on a gear deal with a shoe company a few years ago, and twice a year they had the opportunity to give people they knew a code that we could use to get their discount, which I think was 40%. I was like, "Sweet, I'll order shoes to get me through the next 6 months!" and dialed up 4 pairs of the the shoes I ran in for a total of $240 plus tax.
That might not sound like that great of a deal, but then the order arrived...in two boxes, one of which was big. I had also ordered some clothes and a pair or shoes for my wife, but two boxes? I opened the smaller box, and it had most of all the other stuff in it. Then I opened the big box. It was packed wall to wall with pairs of my shoes. They charged me $240, but sent me 25 pairs. It was like playing Monopoly and pulling the "Bank Error in Your Favor" card. At first, I was going to send them back, but then we realized that we knew some people that worked for this shoe company, and didn't want to draw attention to it if one of them had just decided to hook me up. It was a pretty self-serving way to interpret the situation, but it kept me in shoes for more than 3 years!
I pay extra for all my shoes because I want to help out large multi-national corps.
I worked at Dicks sporting Goods for a while and I sold a guy a pair of shoes that were on super sale or something because they were only seven $7
i went to a running store and they messed up my transaction so they ended up giving me the 2 pairs of NB training shoes i was buying for free.
Got a few pairs free in college #D1Bound #MoneyMotivated

Nike Zoom Victory 3 Rio spikes for $15 at Marshall's
That's some deal.
Those talking about free shoes from whatever are totally missing the point.
If you want to go that route, then people would say what is the most you were paid to wear a pair of shoes.
What about those who do not have scholarships ? are they get free shoes? well, I think to sell my old stuff on Poshmark using the tool.

I got a pair of Brooks in the early 80s so it must have been the Hugger. They blew out within a week so I took them back. Second pair did the same thing. Took them back and got my money refunded. Never wore another pair of Brooks for over 30 years until I wore a couple pair of the Ghost.
I actually won a pair of Hokas at a race. I had a brand new pair of Ghost ready to run in but loved the Hokas so much the Ghost sat around for a few years and I now wear them as a casual shoe. Just looked and they are the Ghost 6. I was pretty sure they were about 7 years old.
