Current deaths are much higher. ND is >50% of MA cumulative already. Surprising, I thought only big Democrat cities got hit hard... hmmmm

This virus thrives in cold weather. The current outbreaks look more like a weather map showing where cold fall temperatures are setting in. Any governor that isn't imposing a six week lockdown in a state where cases are rising should be tried for crimes against humanity. The death toll this fall and winter is going to be horrific unless strong measures are taken right now. This is the last chance to really make a big difference. We are talking about saving 250,000 lives and keeping health systems from collapsing.

Did you really just insert "BOY" in all caps in an attempt to insult Precious Roy? Seriously?
What are you, 12 years old?

This is what worries me. If you look at the ND map of cases/10,000 by county, there's a clear gradient of lower to higher going from the southwest to northeast corner of the state - or exactly the same gradient as average temperatures. Yes, the ND governor is a doofus who started out with good intentions and then wouldn't take the unpopular steps to get things under control, although he is at least encouraging them and there's a good testing program in place. But it might be that ND isn't any different from other states, just colder, and that what we have going on here right now is just a preview of what's coming your way everywhere else.

How about the people who want to lock themselves down for the next six weeks feel free to do so, and the people who realize their personal risk from SARS-Cov-2 is minimal carry on with their lives as normal? No need for the "crimes against humanity "hyperbole. We're six months or more into this pandemic, with plenty of data around to make reasonable judgements about the risks, which vary wildly by age, health, and pre-existing conditions.
If you have vulnerable, high risk people in your life help them out and encourage them to stay away from other people. Don't have them rely on little strips of cotton that were never designed to inhibit viral particles. That's false hope. They need to physically Stay. Away. From. Other. People.
If you're not worried about the virus or are willing to tolerate the risks....carry on with your life taking sensible precautions like you would to avoid getting sick from any other virus.

This doesn't work. Nobody has pulled this off.
COVID deniers act like there is some magic way to only "protect the vulnerable" that every country on the Earth has failed to find (but they see, clear as day).
No -- letting cases run rampant in some segments of the population inevitably spills over to those more vulnerable. This has happened countless times in countless places.
No matter how much you WANT the alternative to be true, it's not.
Bump with graphic updated to present

Update to graphic overlaying new case counts and deaths originally posted in the now deleted "US COVID cases have been climbing for 5 weeks. Deaths are flat." thread.
Line color change at the date of that post.

Despite surging number of "cases", 7 day average of deaths attributed to COVID remain far below what they were in April/May (maybe 50% of those) and barely higher than what they were in the summer. See the graph above.
Now look at the chart below. Average daily cases just soaring since October began and much, much higher than they were at any time before.
https://covidtracking.com/data/charts/us-daily-positiveSo we can conclude a few things.
The virus is far less deadly than hyped last Spring -- @ 1 in 160 of those who catch it, or @ 0.625% (even based on the inflated death numbers).
Many false positives.
