Congrats! Go for sub 39 now
Congrats. From here you go to the bar and grab a beer.
Well done! Given that this was an achievement for you (many including myself can walk a 5km faster than this, not race walking just ordinary brisk walking), it is likely that you are in the process of losing weight, or are quite old, or have some such aspect to your running. In the first case, just keeping being physically active enough to keep losing the weight should be sufficient to keep the 5km time coming down for a good while.
Well it means you are fitter than a lot of humans!
I guess you carry on running...
Good luck on your next race/time trial.

I'll second that idea!
How did your knees and elbows hold up?
go for 39 minutes. bring extra GU. Get some vaporflys and you'll be down to 37 in no time.
0/10
There is no chance that you walk a 5k in 40 minutes, video or it didn’t happen.
You are just a dick who wanted to be a dick online, this guy/girl should celebrate their accomplishment.

I ran a race a few years ago, had finished, changed shoes, warmed down a few miles, then still coming in were the final participants.
One of the largest applause was for the near last finisher, a girl with Down Syndrome.
An accomplishment like that, for her, was infinitely more important than another race results of any of yours or mine.

Kek
World record for walking a 10k is like 41
Actually my intention was the opposite, to illustrate that the original poster probably is battling weight issues, or quite old, or just starting running, or something, and thus to emphasise that this was indeed an achievement in such circumstances; and I gave encouragement accordingly, in contrast to many other responses.
If you walk briskly regularly and are fit, averaging 8 min / km walking on a flat route would be a normal, untrained effort, it is nothing particularly notable. I mentioned myself just because it sounded too generic otherwise, but I don't view this as anything to brag about; as I say, any fit person should be able tø do it with some regular brisk walking. A fit person who has not done much walking would probably manage 10 min / km at first on average, but the pace will naturally quickly increase if one walks often.
Typo: untrained -> unstrained

I would tend to agree with you but there are some people who can walk the 5K in 40 minutes well actually it is basically speedwalking with that particular style that speed walkers adopt. Personally, I do a lot of walking and my speed is around six minutes per kilometer so it is slower but still faster than average. The best walkers can walk 5K in under 20 minutes but you already know about that I assume. To the poster who stated he could walk 5K in 40 minutes it may seem unlikely but it is possible if he’s an extremely fast walker almost semi pro level.
Here is a random example in which 8 min / km is described as a fast walking pace for a fit person, but given that it appears there on a general website (not aimed at athletes), nothing out of the ordinary.

It may be also worth remarking that there is a massive difference between 6 min / km and 8 min / km when walking; 6 min / km is impossible unless race walking technique is used.
