The argument against being a competitive athlete is as old as time.
To summarize:
1) Athletic achievement is not a thing in and of itself.
2) Training is to: a) achieve cosmetic goals b) claim that you are "staying active" , c) validate the sales pitch of health professionals
3) Diminishing return on effort = bad for you.
Well -
If the goal is to look good and to be able to pay a lot in gym fees and elective doctor's bills-
Then too much athletic training definitely takes away time from the more important activities of shopping and working- and it doesn't improve your health THAT much.
