Hello LetsRun. I am looking to buy a new pair of spikes for the next couple track seasons. I am primarily a 1500m runner, but indoors I run 1000m-3000m and outdoors I run 800m-5000m. I'm fairly competitive, with PRs of 1:54, 2:29, 3:55, and 8:35. I am looking to hopefully run ~3:51 this outdoor and also drop my 800m PR (my 800m PR is 2 years old). I have not yet run a competitive 5k (15:28 enroute to a road 10k is my PR), but I may also run one of those this spring. I'd like to have a sub-15:00 on the books, and think on a good day I could be in the 14:30s. I also would like to drop my 1000m and 3000m PRs next year indoors, hopefully hitting ~2:26 and ~8:20. That all said, I am trying to decide between the Victory Elite and Brooks ELMN8. I have a pair of Next% that I could potentially wear for the 5000m outdoors, but I really need a new pair of middle distances spikes for my other races. I like the aggressiveness of the ELMN8, and they seem like very good 800m spikes. However, I'm not sure they would be so good for a 3000m, where I will only be running ~4:30 mile pace, maybe a bit faster. They seem to thrive at 4:15 pace or faster, which for me means mile and down. The Victory Elites I'm sure are good for 1500m-3000m, but I'm not sure they are aggressive enough for the 800m, and the 5000m seems a bit long for them. Can anyone give me any insight into my options?
