I just recently completed by first marathon this past Saturday. Finished in 3:34:10 - went out in 1:50:30 and finished in 1:43:40. Hit a wall hard at mile 23 or so - wasn't able to take nearly as much energy as planned because of some digestive issues.
I am a 30yo male and wondering how far off/how realistic a BQ is? Is a jump this big possible to make?
Little bit of background:
PB's:
1600: 4:46
5k: 17:55
Marathon: 3:44
I did a 12 week training plan leading up to my first marathon and averaged 33 miles a week. The most I ever ran in a week was 37. Did some fartleks here and there and a couple of mile repeat sessions but, really didn't do a ton of speed/hill work.
Obviously, I know the only way to make the jump is to bump the weekly mileage up pretty significantly. I am considering making the jump up to 50-60 miles a week and am wondering if that would be a big enough jump in mileage (assuming I can stay healthy, of course) to give me a legitimate shot at going under 3hrs.
Any insight is greatly appreciated!
