I haven't been in years, like 20. I take care of my teeth and have money too, but the fear of the dentist keeps me away. What about you?

About a year. I seem to always get sick after going to the dentist. So, because if covid, I haven't bothered to set up an appt.
About ten years. My old dentist (which I had trusted) has retired and I feel like there is a high chance the next one would do/suggest unnecessary things. I have to add this wouldn't be a financial issue (because of health insurance), but I still don't like to get unnecessary medical interventions done. While I'm sure there are some good ones, I absolutely don't trust dentists as a whole and I met some really incompetent ones in my job.
Unfortunately the good days won't last forever and I will have to find a new one, but in the meantime I just brush with flouride containing tooth paste and say f... it until problems occur.
About 8 years. Last time I went the dentist was horrible. At the time I was 20 and had never had a cavity but maybe I hadn't taken the very best care of my teeth in the months prior. She caused me loads of pain, made me bleed loads stabbing my gums and was just criticising me throughout for bleeding, for having plaque etc. I'm pretty convinced a lot of what they do and reccomend is superfluous and some of them give completely incorrect advice (my girlfriend has been told to brush immediately after every meal).
I know it's long overdue that I go again, but I'm pretty convinced that some dentists insist on doing work which is unnecessary and causes futher problems down the line which I'm very keen to avoid.
My brother once got told he needed a cavity filled and to come back in a few days to get it done. He read about teeth, about de- and re-mineralisation. He worked hard to remineralise over those few days and when he went back to the dentist, they couldn't find the cavity and said he didn't need the filling anymore.
I went to the dentist for the first since 8 years a few months back. They did the deep cleaning and it was great, I notice that now I don't get that cold feeling in my teeth when I drink something cold. They also have this new kind of technology now (only for non invasive cleaning) in which they don't even use a shot on you but spread a some kind of gel to induce numbness.
Going back soon.

Are you based in the country of Belarus? If that is the case that is very interesting
Weird - I don’t get this. We all participate in a sport where the whole ballgame is being uncomfortable for extended periods of time. What’s the big deal with letting someone poke at your teeth for 45 minutes? I’ve run 5Ks that we’re more uncomfortable than getting a tooth filled.
I need to go, but it's too expensive. We need free universal dental care for all.
I sleep with my dentist. I only have to make sure I am on her good side when I go see her. If you haven't been in 20 years, you need to get over your childish fears and go. You likely have a mouth full of issues. The idea of only going when you have pain is a mistake that can cost you most of your teeth.
I started going after reading an article or maybe it was on this message board YEARS ago about a college 800 meter runner who started suffering anemia, his times slowed so much that he lost his scholarship, he sometime afterwards went to the dentist and the dentist found he had this abscess that was causing the anemia, they fixed it, he got stronger and began running well again.... or something like that.. Does anybody remember that?
Well, it got me going to the dentist
They can only re-mineralize successfully with fluoride if they are small to begin with. If you are not flossing and not brushing regularly, you will get inflammation in your gum tissue due to bacteria and over time will get bone loss in the bones that anchor your teeth (gingivitis eventually becoming periodontal disease). Eventually you will not have enough bone around the teeth to anchor them in place and you will lose your teeth (not to mention awful breath). It's not the dentists fault that your gums were inflamed and were bleeding, it is your fault for neglecting your personal hygiene. Take care of your teeth and get regular cleanings and this won't be an issue.
2 months ago. If you go consistently (twice a year or so) there's less to be scared about cuz they can catch things earlier
This. 100 times this! Go to the dentist, people!
I went a month ago. My appointments are pretty fast. I use a Sonic Care toothbrush and it cleans like no other. I wish they had these when I was a kid as I think it is almost impossible to get a cavity if you use it 2x day.
5-6 years...I need to find a new dentist.
BTW if you have any fillings, especially some of the composite ones, they don't last forever, I've read typical lifespan is about 10 years. If you ignore them failing, bad stuff will happen in the holes in your teeth.

Hear, hear! I ended up having two root canals because fillings failed and the tooth rotted underneath, where I couldn't get at it. (Otherwise I basically haven't gotten a cavity for decades, because I brush and floss pretty religiously.)
And saw the dentist last week (another root canal) because I broke a tooth on a little piece of nutshell. The whole deal is gonna cost me about $2k. Those were pretty expensive nuts.

Dentist offices along with all medical facilities are superspreaders. I'll go to a dentist when I feel like dying from Covid. No thanks!
I have not been to the dentist in over 15years. but I do brush and use Listerine regularly. i should go in soon though since your post is reminding me of such things
Although I have dental insurance through my work I haven't been in about 10 years. I just hate going to the dentist.
As long as you take care of them wrote:

Same reason for me.
