I’m planning to run my first marathon in a week (virtually) and wondering if I’m going to blow up hard trying to run under 3:00. Four weeks ago I dropped a 65 minute 10 miler which was hard but not all out. I haven’t done too much speedwork, only one workout of mile repeats and one of 1k repeats, but last weekend I raced a 5:15 mile on the road (my first race effort in 7 months)
My training hasn’t been perfectly optimal, but I think if I’m realistically close enough fitness-wise to running under 3:00, I could gut it out. I just don’t want to go out running 6:50s and be wildly off and die hard. I’ve also never run a marathon before so I’m aware it may be incredibly ambitious. Any thoughts or advice?
