Records with pacesetters used to be considered valid only because it would mimic what could theoretically happen in a real race. So, you could pay someone to run two laps really fast and pace you, just because there isn't anything preventing a front runner from theoretically doing that on his/her own, so that can still be thought of as a real race. However, you can't run 1 lap in a mile and then have someone who didn't start the race jump in for your second lap and pace you, since that wouldn't theoretically happen in a real race.
Thus, since races are separated by gender- Paula Radcliffe's world records were given an asterisk/a separate category because she had male pace setters, which aren't part of a normal race.
HOWEVER- now that wavelight technology is fine for track races- meaning it's legal for runners to now get pacing assistance for their entire race, what's the point of having the distinction of "womens only records" for the Half or Full Marathon? Unnatural pacing is now okay for the entire race according to wavelight technology, so now who cares if there are runners who aren't supposed to normally be there? All of it is just "unnatural pacing help"
I say either get rid of wavelight technology or remove the distinction of "womens only records" etc. Hell- all of it is still the runner running, right? (as long as it isn't in bouncy shoes). If wavelight technology is fine- why not have Women 400m sprinters run a 2 x 400m in front of Rudisha/Amos/Brazier- each running 49 seconds- and help them run under 1:40?
