Just straight up, would a 1:54 800 be good enough to make BYUs mid distance team?

Any other marks at other distances to strengthen your chances?
With just that one mark I would say no, as a scholarship athlete. Definitely yes, as a "walk on". You would be able to compete in all the home meets. To be able to travel to meets you would need a 1:51
Yeah just looking to make the team. Am looking to run low 4:20ish in the mile this year but the 8 is by far my strongest event. Got into running a little later than most so am just looking for an opportunity to make the team as a walk on and then hopefully move up to the traveling team.
That’s a fantastic time for a woman.
I would say 1:54 is good enough to make most d1 teams. BYU is not as strong at mid-d compared to long distance so I would say 1:54 seems about right for a walk on standard. If you were looking to go to somewhere like A&M for example, you would have to run much faster. If you contact BYUs coaches I am sure they would be willing to talk to you.
Why not just figure out who handles their recruiting and ask them?

Why do that when I can come get all my questions answered here

You might want to contact Ed, the Men's Head Coach at BYU, and let him know of your interest and you current marks.
No way honeybuns . BYU is elite . Plus they don’t focus on mid /distance . The altitude isn’t conducive. Check out Santa Clara or Gonzaga .

In staying in Utah so if it’s not byu it’s gonna be USU. I’ve done some research and I think that while byu would be a better fit for me academically, USU is probably much better for developing mid distance runners like myself.

Weber State has been good at times. Not so sure about it academically.
Utah Valley University in Orem has been doing well in XC/Track. Again, not so sure about the academics there.

Probably not, BYU doesn't really focus on Mid-D. You either do long distance or focus on 200-400. Also, their slowest 800 guy usually runs a 1:51-1:52
Utah St. would be very happy to have you as their fastest guy has not been under 1:54 past couple of seasons
I was there in the early 80's training for the 800m and I counted 13 guys one day that I knew could run faster than that. Back then you would not have traveled unless you were running 1:52 or better is what I remember. I think traveling rules are a lot different now though.
This is what they have posted for 2019 outdoors:
As of: 5/27/19
Marcus Dickson 1:50.75 3/29/19 Stanford Invitational Stanford, California
Kenneth Rooks 1:50.90 4/25/19 Robison Invitational Provo, Utah
Talem Franco 1:51.08 3/15/19 Willie Williams Invite Tucson, Arizona
Connor Ross 1:51.26 5/11/19 Oxy Invitational Los Angeles, California
Patrick Parker 1:52.13 3/15/19 Willie Williams Invite Tucson, Arizona

Man, I could have made that list easily in the 100, 200, and 400 if those where the times that folks were running when I was there and some of those folks travelled. I never did get to travel and just ran some home meets.

No. It isn't. BYU has a couple of studs you don't even know yet who can destroy that. Run 1:51 and then talk to them.

I was there also in the early 80's, although not training for the 800, and I can confirm that this is pretty accurate.
Yes, that would be good enough to walk on. It helps that they are a private school with less stringent roster limits.
