Why not? It's only a road race. Don't forget, as double world record holder he probably got a nice payday. He ran one race too many this season, but he has plenty of time to rest and then start his next training cycle.

I agree -- not a good take. But not neccessarily just for fans' sake but for Chep's own sake, and for the sake of his experience. When you're the best in the world at something, the rules are different. You probably recover better than 99%, can race better than 99% when underrecovered, and can do all sorts of things 99% of the world can't do. Chep is experimenting with his body and his potential. He's not going to kill himself running a HM. So what's the big risk? Not winning? Who cares. Kipchoge's streak was great but we should let runners run and not expect them to be top dog every time they lay foot on the road or track.

He will have to spend so much time recovering and getting back into shape I don’t know if he’ll be ready for the Olympics next year. My coach’s words.
