Not to hijack or derail this thread, but I have a hypothetical situation I wanted to run by you all, too, and would love to hear everyone's thoughts:
What if, instead of military style lockdowns, policed/fined social/physical distancing, mandatory vaccinations, and enforced/jail-able mask laws (all strategies which have been shown to be only minimally effective at best and detrimental at worst) to "stamp out" a virus, that by all accounts, is undefeatable and will, by all indications, most likely weaken over time, remain with us forever, and has something like a 99% survival rate...what if, instead of those strategies, the government institutes a "healthy living" or "immune system boosting" mandate that actually targets the problem, and for an indefinite period of time requires the American people to eat healthy at every meal, get plenty of exercise, lose weight, cut down on screen time, do more outdoor activities in the fresh air and sunlight, give up smoking completely, and reduce excessive alcohol consumption & recreational drug usage. If you break any of these requirements, you get heavily fined or thrown in jail. How would the American people react? It's in the interest of "public health" and "it will keep everyone safe", so everyone should be on board with it, right?
Rather than (cancelling cross country meets and) sending in the military to lock-up the fit, healthy folks out living their lives, the police would instead go after some obese middle-aged woman wearing a mask, who despite knowing the consequences of her choices, refuses to exercise, eat healthy, or give up smoking.
How would the American people react?
