Someone running a 30min 10k which is a pretty major milestone for a sub-elite runner would get lapped almost 4 times by Joshua Cheptegei.

This is actually quite sad to think about.
Don't be sad for the 30 minute runner, he is free to troll on letsrun. Be happy for Cheptegei.
As a 29:50 sub-elite who sometimes thinks he's hot shiz...wow i suck
But he would lap me 100 times! Maybe more!

Cheptegei would have lapped most of the olympic qualifiers. Isn't 27:30 the auto qualifying time (and that's the AUTO, a lot of the competitors won't have hit that mark but will get in based on world rankings)? He would lap anyone running slower than 27:20, and that's about half of the people that will qualify.
No. When Chep finished, a 30 minute guy is 3 laps and 13 seconds behind him.
If you think that’s bad, Henry Rono’s 13:06 5,000 would have put him a second off at halfway and, his 27:22 would have gotten him lapped. Yep, Henry Rono, one of the greatest athletes in Kenyan history, would have gotten lapped.
Makes you wonder.
How many college xc teams could do a 10k relay and win? BYU, NAU?
10x1k
25x400 coed
6xmile
5x2k

He would be lapped for third time just before his 22nd lap

They hit halfway in 13:08.
Pretty much any half way decent team could do a 10k relay faster.
